All of the great BU teams seem to have had an above average PG. This needs to be a priority on the recruiting front. Let's hope and pray Donovine Stewart comes to BU. He may be just what we need (but unfortunately that's still two years away).

Murph I agree a 7'0" 1st round NBA center will make alot of coaches look good. I'm a firm believer GOOD PLAYERS can make a coach look good. Matter of fact its necessary. If your players are questionable you better have some asst's that can do more for you then you can. Does the name Tony Barone ring a bell. Tricky Dick wasn't the best coach in the world, but he could sure recruit and had Tony B. sitting right next to him. You be the judge what do we have in this scenerio? I will say again I do not agree with booing but if you really don't think things will change, remember money talks. I'm not jumping off the bandwagon ,but very disappointed in what I'm seeing from our bench. Go Braves lets get this turned around.

They can also make a coach look bad when they leave two years early, but then it's considered an "excuse" just like injuries.
I'm speaking of course about Bradley, which isn't accustomed to such a thing.

Nothing against Tony B because he was a great guy, but the first season he was gone the Braves went 32-3. Give Dick V a little credit.

I had to leave with 13 minutes to go but even then and before that it was not hard to see that they were taking complete advantage of SM, he is to slow to guard anyone with any speed. He also took several completely ill advised shots.

Sickening we lose up 7 with less then 2 to play on our home court. To me with 2 on the road coming up this type of loss will kill a season quickly.

JL better get control of his coaching very quickly. Going zone, not attacking a zone press out of a time out, playing a walk on, BTW if your going to dig deep on the bench and go walk on that is when you go zone to hide that person, not man to man v Fay.

Terrible loss and real possiblity to come back next Wednesday at 1-3. Mo for all his faults rarely if ever lost 3 straight home games.

I still cant believe he thought it was a good move to play Philips at all. Just a silly coaching move. But worst of all we simply have no point guard. We have one who shoots, but cant defend and we have one who cant shoot but can defend. Games are won in this conference in the back court. We wont win much with what we put out on the court from the 1. And if one of them is hurt stop playing him until he is healthy.

JL your ship is sinking bigtime, you better wake up and figure it out quick and stop playing walk ons. And if you have to put Warren at the 1 because SM is going to get exploited every night and EM is not going to get guarded ever.

Its plane to see why no DII or DIII teams offered SM JL was his only opportunity and JL has no clue. Last year in St Louis EM totally shut down Dillard and JL kept him on the bench and let SIU exploit SM, what gives. I'm no coach but daaah. I want to win not let my buddies kid get me beat.

I don't know where you get your information BUFAN but Maniscalco was clearly a mid-major D1 prospect. There were plenty of press clippings and reports saying as much. His contributions and stats at this point in his BU career are rivaled by few in BU history. Is he a top D1 PG? Maybe not. But he has certainly been a major asset to BU throughout his career and has most certainly proven that he is a D1 player.

BUFAN, I don't know where you get your info, you are completely wrong.

Sam had a lot of interest from D1s but he verballed to Bradley in August before his senior season. He wanted to play for BU and Coach Les, and knew he would have playing time right away. He had a fantastic senior season and would certainly have gotten many more D1 offers. You don't have to believe me, just ask anyone familiar with Illinois basketball. Better yet, Sam's dad is at every game, ask him.

Not sure I understand your first half of this post. SM was definately a D-1 recruit. He has been a big plus for our program but I do agree he's going through some tough times right now. He really struggles guarding quicker players and it has cost us numerous times this season. Last night was a good example and I also think EM should have seen alot more minutes against Dillard. Dillard ate Sammy up and EM did a nice job on him when he was in the game. I said in another post EM can'tthrow the ball in the ocean but he can guard you and rebound. Right now SM is not doing any of the three but when the game is on the line (last couple of minutes ) i'll take SM anytime. Go Braves lets turn this around.

SM is a D-1 talent, plain and simple. He is going through a tough spot here, may be still injured, may be playing out of his comfort zone...but he is a D-1 talent.
That said, he is struggling and should not have been in the game at the end, IMO.
I do agree that coaches at times have players they rely on heavily and tend to lean on them, some times to a fault. That is when a top assistant would step in and point out the guy needs to sit.
I know many are also down on EM because of his lack of scoring. IMO the pg does not have to score. He can just run the offense and make sure the right guy gets the ball and play tough D. EM can do that and right now would be my pick to get the majority of minutes at point and at crunch time.

I think I know my Bradley BB. Bradley was a young team with a bunch of sophomores, outside of JL and Big Mike that season, so IMO it was a great coaching job. I'll repeat, nothing against Tony, but the guys also loved playing for Dick V.

Chico I don't want to argue this point with you. I never said Dicks players didn't like playing for him because I know they did. I use to officiate scrimmages for him. Yes they did like him but, thats not the point we were discussing. The X and O man was Tony B not Dick period. Tony went on to coach at several other Universitys while Dick went to the Big show because he knew the owner of an NBA team he went to work for.

I know or strongly believe that Tony was def. an important part of that group. He was very well liked.

A couple of points to address here as I fundamentally disagree with some topics on your post.

Point 3. You obviously missed the season after the Sweet 16 year and last year as far as JL's coaching ability. I am not saying that JL is a great coach, but the coaching job done in those 2 years was very good. After saying this, I will admit that JL is not having a good year on the coaching front this year.

Point 4. Why bash this player? It was the staff that sent him in to guard Fay not the player. He is a decent guy and good player in HS. IMO, your point here looses credibility and reeks of a personal agenda.

Refering to point 3. Are you saying it is ok to coach well every 2 out of 8 years?

Refering to point 4. I know I come off as harsh in this post. I know the player I targeted and have no problem with him....I am just looking for an explanation as to why AT and MK have 0 min....and all the sudden he is our best option. Apparently there is no answer yet. That was just my opinion on the matter. Maybe MK and AT are slacking in practice and he was stepping it up?
