  • Jim Les in Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame Thursday

I came across a couple articles reminding me that Jim Les's enshrinement into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame will happen Thursday.
Others being inducted include former DePaul great Terry Cummings--

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Also Chicago Bears great Richard Dent, Phoenix Suns CEO Jerry Colangelo, Big Ten Conference Commissioner Jim Delaney, former Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame Centerfielder Kirby Puckett, Bradley Head Basketball Coach Jim Les and Chicago sports radio personality Mike North.

I was listenbing to 670 radio last night and they kept hyping Mike North also for his induction into the HOF.
I have my suspicions if a radio talk show host in just a few years on the job has done enough to warrant HOF induction.
    You decide....

My guess is that he is being selected because by doing so, the entire event will get a tremendous amount of free publicity and air-play.

Here is the full list of people being inducted, and I am happy to see one of my childhood heroes, White Sox pitcher Billy Pierce among the inductees.

I think he has been with the Score since it began back in the early 90's.

Mike North has been a fixture in Chicago sports radio for over 15 years.

No real argument here, Mike's own bio points out that he was selling hot dogs until 1990 when he landed a job talking NFL on WSBC. He has a general sports talk show since 1992, but then, so have gobs of other Chicago personalities such as Dan Jiggets, Fred Huebner, Doug Buffone, Hub Arkush, and many other on-air personalities.

I guess they can name anyone they want to the Hall of Fame, but people (Jim Les, Billy Pierce, Kirby Puckett, Richard Dent, etc.) who have over 20 years of involvement in sports, leadership, charity work, and accomplishments are IMHO far more deserving of HOF membership than a guy who is well paid for his simple job of sitting in a chair and rather un-athletically talking about sports.

Next we'll have guys who run a message board for 15 years getting nominated for the HOF.

Jim Les was out of sports for a number of years, and away from the Chicago area and Illinois for a number of years. Mike North has been a fixture in Chicago Sports Radio his entire career in sports. If athleticism was a requirement to be inducted into a sports Hall of Fame, you can remove guys like Chuck Daly and Harry Caray from their respective Halls of Fame. And if you think talking into a microphone on the radio for 4 hours is easy, I would challenge you to try it. I don't understand your constant need to belittle others in order to promote your own agenda.

Mike North is much more apart of Chicago then Jim Les and honestly much more a part of Chicago sports. Im not saying Les doesnt deserve to be in but he is not close to the Chicago icon Mike North is.
                Can we start winning soon?

My life is just fine without M North.

M North an icon and inducted into a HOF defines how things are today compared to how things were 20 years and to 50 years ago.

My life is fine with or without a lot of things. What's your point? I personally think he's an idiot most of the time, but you don't last as long as he has, and made the name that he has in the city that he has without doing something right. He is as deserving as anyone on the list.

amen, and BB, no agenda, just opinion.
If you want radio legends, then you hit on a few and I could add Vince Lloyd, Bob Elston, Jack Brickhouse, even Hawk Harrelson. I have listened to Chicago radio and sports coverage for over 50 years and have heard all these guys.

The "Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame" is defined as those contributing to Chicagoland Sports who have been "born, raised or played in the Chicagoland area."
There are over 300 people in the CSHOF, including Jack Brickhouse and Harry Carey.
Bradley's Ron Ferguson as well as guys like Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, George Halas, Jerry Reinsdorf.

Hey, I got a question for you BB...if you don't think broadcasters get a little favoritism in this CSHOF process...
Do you think White Sox play by play man Ed Farmer is deserving of being in the Chicagoland HOF?

                      Answer...he already is....elected a long time ago.
He began as White Sox play by play man in 1992, and in 1999 was inducted in the Chicagoland HOF as a broadcaster (after just 7 seasons).
His lifetime major league W-L record of 30-43 certainly doesn't qualify him for a HOF, do you think 7 years of radio broadcasting should place a guy in the HOF ahead of guys like Ozzie Guillen, Ferguson Jenkins, Walter Payton (who wasn't elected to the CSHOF until after he died)?

In most circles, the awards that go to the participants of a sport or activity are different from the awards that go to those from the press who cover.
Can you imagine a Hollywood columnist getting an Academy Award?
I am convinced that putting the writers in the HOF is strictly for the PR purpose it nets.
By the way, just check ouy how many radio and TV people were nominated for induction to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006 alone.
It is over 200 of them!

(Note that several are guys with connections to Bradley,
Lorn Brown, Vince Lloyd, Charlie Steiner)

I am not trying to belittle anyone here BB to promote my agenda. I agree with what you just said about North. My point was North's induction how things are different today as compared to 20 or 50 years ago when it comes to becoming a HOF in voters opinions. So maybe I am belittling someone... the HOF nominator.

Maybe I am a bad assessor of sports talk radio hosts... seems like a lot of wasted hot air to me. I have tried to listen but just can't remain interested. If I am gonna listen to talk radio, I prefer it to be political and informative on today's news.
