  • More News on Shang Ping

After not hearing much about Ping for a while, now a story appears on GoPokes.com, the scout/insiders site for Oklahoma State University.

It is a premium article, but if you PM me I will let you know what I think you want to know about the article.

PS-- it is a long and detailed piece written because they are recruiting him and he has scheduled a visit to Oklahoma State University.

Thanks, I guess BU is not in the present picture, as he lists
Pacific, Butler, TCU, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma State,
He's already visited Pacific, but since Ping has friends in Peoria, maybe he'd like to stay closer?

Wait a minute, what this article says is that Ping averaged 15/5, but the official stats on the website for 2005-2006 document only 14.3 points & 4.5 rebounds per game.
I don't blame them for trying to get the best stuff in print, but the article also says Ping is a good 3-point shooter. His stats seem to say otherwise, as he hit 12 of 61 attempts last year for 19.6%.

There's also a new piece about Shang Ping on the Jucojunction site.

They say they will have a full story on him (and his ICC teammates) later tonight on Tuesday, but one of the experts on Jucojunction says Wisconsin is "no longer involved with him".

        Also, ...

"when I saw him at Danville in the preseason he wanted to sit outside and shoot.... didn't like to play aggressive....has alot of potential and could chang through out the season and this summer..."

        "Two visits taken...
He is creating quite the roar amoungst Oklahoma State fans."

Thanks, seems like Oklahoma State likes those jucos.
Funny how all the Big Ten interest has disappeared, and now his choices are a little more sparse (Pacific/Butler, etc.)

Immediately after scout/insiders has their story on Shang Ping, Rivals has one up the very next day.

"Illinois Central with High Major Talent"

again...it is a premium article, so you'll have to PM me to know what it says, as I cannot repost.

But they do discuss FIVE different ICC players that they rank as D-I candidates, and they are:
            Shang Ping
            DeAaron Williams
            Brandon Lee
Wendell Mardis (transfer from Southeastern Illinois juco, same school Takais Brown was at)
            Will Jones (transfer)

Ping may be visiting Nebraska this weekend.

Here are some of the other comments about the ICC players...

Brandon Lee-- getting interest from Nebraska and Florida A&M
...(although they do have an error in listing Brandon Lee as 6-foot-10 !!

Wendell Mardis-- 6-0 point guard has interest from Long Beach State and Pacific, as well as an offer from Idaho State.

Oklahoma State might need Shang Ping a little bit more now.

Oklahoma State's top incoming freshman is Gary Flowers, a 6-8 205lb Forward who was rated as the #8 player nationally in his class.
Flowers just got suspended from the basketball team at OSU for
allegedly being arrested this past weekend on a marijuana possession charge. He also was ticketed for speeding and did not have a valid driver???‚¬?„?s license or proof of insurance.

Looks like the Cowboys need a replacement...no wonder they are looking at Ping.

scout/insiders reports that Shang Ping in on campus at Oklahoma State today.
They also report that Ping has narrowed his college choices to three.

"Shang Ping, the 6-foot-10, 230-pound big man from Illinois Central College, has narrowed his choices to three schools and hopes to make a decision after visiting Oklahoma State this weekend..."

???‚¬?“I think he wants to make a decision after this weekend. I think he???‚¬?„?s trying to get it over with,???‚¬?? said Wysinger, who believes that Ping will make a decision next week.

Wysinger said that Ping is deciding between Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Pacific. He already has taken official visits to Nebraska, Pacific and Butler. ???‚¬?“Butler is out of it,???‚¬?? Wysinger said.

There is a little discussion on their boards about Ping, but it is not all unanimous.
Some think OSU can do better with their available scholarships.

There was also another article about Ping on Rivals a couple weeks ago discussing what they term "so-called "projects"".
The Rivals article misspells ICC assistant Fred Dixon's name (they call him Dickson). And they explain why Ping has interest in Pacific,
"Pacific has over 30% Asian population," Dickson said. "and he (Ping) wants to major in international business, so each of those schools are high on his list."

DeAaron Williams is the only one I know of who has committed to a Div I.
Brandon Lee came from a Div I. Is he officially part of the ICC team? They have updated the coaching staff to show the new staff this year, but the roster still shows last year's players.

Unless something has happened in the past week, I am certain BLee is on this year's ICC squad, along with DeAaron, Ping, and two other D-I prospects, both transfers from other programs,
Wendell Mardis from Southeastern Illinois College (where TJ Marion is presently)
and Will Jones from Lewis & Clark junior college.

Wendell Mardis is #30 in the back row far left:
