    Huge Surprise nationally

University of North Carolina... I don't know how good of a coach Roy Williams is but it makes you wonder how good he really is when he has only 4 and 5 star players, including bench players, as well as McDonald all americans and other "super stars" and he has already lost almost as many games as he did in the entire year last year with the prospect of losing more. I often wonder how good these so-called hall-of-fame coaches would be if all they had were 2 star and less ranked players to coach. Hmmmmmmm!!

UNC is losing to good teams and they are fairly young. Roy is a pretty good coach and once his team learns how to take care of the basketball and play within their system they'll be fine.

Among others they have lost to College of Charleston. Even with a young team they have nothing but 4 and 5 star players. However, my question was , "How good would Roy Williams be if he coached only 2 star and less players??

He would be good because 2 star players stick around for 4 years. I believe he gets his guys playing at a high level fairly quickly and within a system that exploits the talent he has.

I guess in reality we will never know. There are plenty of coaches who have had great recruits year in and year out and never have won a championship.

That's a great thought for a new TV reality show...

            "Trading Coaches"

you take a top BCS team like UNC (whose coach will be so arrogant as to want to prove he can win with any level of talent), and then some low midmajor like College of Charleston or Towson...(whose coaches would love to have just one 4-Star)
and for a couple games, you make them swap coaches...and see what happens!!
geez...if they can get Bobby Knight to agree to do one of those incredibly silly, completely phony "reality shows"
that are totally scripted and not "real" at all, then maybe they can find some takers for a show like this!

Roy is a good coach; he's definitely proven that over his long career at both KU and UNC. Part of what makes a great coach great is his ability to recruit these 4 and 5 star studs. Just look at Tubby Smith, Pitino, Calipari (forget that he's crooked ), Roy, Billy Donovan, and others. These guys have gone on to new schools and continued to land great recruits and win. I think they could be considered great coaches.

What a brilliant idea! Wish it could happen!

Biggest surprise for me is for AW and TB to be having success in the MVC yet BU is only sitting at 3-4.

T, for as much as you led the charge over the summer of BU being 1-2 in the Valley this year with TB and AT playing at a high level, the 3-4 start has to be the most surprising to you.

I just hope your preseason prognostication comes true and BU goes 10-1 the rest of the way in the conference and finishes a respectable 2nd at 13-5! With a BB win, I would give JL my personal stamp of approval

Actually - (I don't know about Tornado but) it's the most surprising to me. I thought we'd go no worse than 16-2 in Conference play and win the MVC.

Who'd you even have beating us? I looked at the schedule in the preseason and couldn't even find 2 losses

One "hiccup" somewhere on the road... and a loss at ISU as it is their National Championship game to fill Redbird Arena and beat Bradley as they storm the court.

it is surprising..but I know the reason....the early negative publicity took its expected toll just as it did back when DRuff was in the news...
It's behind us now and I think BU may be the team to beat the rest of the way!

did you see..UCLA pulled off a big win on a last second shot last night over Washington--

the kid who hit the winning shot and ended up on SportsCenter is a walk on kid from St. Louis.
