  • BU Mascot choices- and a Pick-em contest

Ok-- lets get started with a pickem, and here are the details.

--Guess which name will be the final selection for BU's new mascot.
Each poster can choose and offer one guess only.

--The prize will be a FREE copy of the Bradley Hilltopics which included all the great pictures from BU's NCAA run.

--If more than one poster guesses the right mascot, then the first three (only) who have selected the right one will go to the tiebreaker, which will be to name the date the final announcement of the new mascot is made. (it will be after the mascot suggestions deadline of October 15, 2006) and the closest tiebreaker is the final winner.

--Lastly if a mascot name is selected then later changed (as in the running debate over museum name) then only the very first final selection is the one we'll go with.

    So....
    here is my guess....

I think it will be a hawk.
Native Americans revered the great birds and they also often used them and their feathers in their imagery.
The Hawk will be announdced on December 1, 2006.

I have emailed my suggestion directly to Mitch Griffin, and I urge everyone else to do so, too--

        Mitch Griffin's email-- mg@bradley.edu

Let's start the topic again here with suggestions for the new mascot. I would encourage creativity, and discourage criticism at this stage. Let's just hear as many suggestions as we can.

We've had the suggestion for the squirrels or the flying squirrels. It's not my favorite, but it does have one factor that a new mascot needs- marketability. Here is a link to an old thread I posted last December about the Akron Zips. They had just unveiled their new mascot, Zippy the Kangaroo, and the marketing money has been rolling in ever since. They have made millions in marketing of merchandise because of the new, cute, and somewhat unique choice.

        So here is my choice--
        Prairie Dogs
        Go you Dogs!

I think the team nickname will still be Braves, but the mascot will be

            I like the Bullfrogs.

It's unique and very amenable to merchandising. It is also relevant to Illinois, and a river community.

              Buffalo or Bison
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

These are some great suggestions. I hope the Bradley committee sees these (is everyone sending them in?)

Here is an extra bonus prize--

Bradleyfans.com will award DVD copies of both of Bradley's games last March in Auburn Hills, Michigan (the wins over Kansas and Pitt) to whoever picks the correct mascot that Bradley decides on. These are high quality DVD recordings of each game. Come on and get the suggestions/guesses in.

I was thinking "war eagle," but if we went with a Hawk, we could use Hersey's silhouette

I will go with a little less offensive version of the ever-popular Tommy Hawk,
but he will be called River Hawk
