Doesn't Sagarin also use things in his formula like margin of victory/loss, and the previous season's record?

I am not 100% sure but I know his formula is different then most- I am just not sure why... it might be that his is a predictor of the end of season results- not sure though... But I am pretty sure the selection committee uses his rankings...Originally posted by Da Coach View PostComment

I believe he only uses the previous season's record in the beginning of the year until the current season has enough results to give you reasonable results. He does use margin of victory. Basically, he calculates two different rating indices... One is the way chess players are ranked, in which winning and who your opponent is are the only things that matter. The second is where the margin of victory is the only thing that matters. He then uses some kind of system to combine those rankings into the "sagarin" ranking. I personally like paying close attention to the chess portion of his rankings.Comment
