  • Bad Injury- not BU related

one of Mark Turgeon's players at Texas A&M, Derrick Roland, came down wrong on his right leg and immediately fractured both bones in his lower leg (tibia and fibula).
The video, easily findable on YouTube, is pretty ugly, as his lower right leg between the knee and ankle is bent at nearly 90 degrees laterally.
    He is undergoing surgery today...

Yeah I was watching that game when it happened. Very nasty. Felt sorry for him and his team mates and wish him a quick recovery.

(btw, can we make sure to put a note in subject title that the topic is non-braves related?)

          Another unfortunate injury-
In Indiana's blowout win over winless Bryant last night, super freshman Maurice Creek injured his knee and was taken off the court on a stretcher. It's being reported he "fractured his left knee" and will require surgery and will be lost for ther remainder of the season. He was the leading freshman scorer in the country, and was leading Indiana in scoring with 17.6 ppg prior to last night's game.

Even though the injured Texas A&M player, Derrick Roland had started and played the first 12 games of their season,
apparently just because they were Texas A&M they were counting on the highly unusual action by NCAA of giving the kid a redshirt year
when he had played considerably more than what's allowed to be eligible for a redshirt.
It is unfortunate for the kid but it is the NCAA rule -- cannot play in more than 30% of scheduled games (30 scheduled games, 30% would equal 9 games, and he played 12).

Mark Turgeon even made the highly unusual appeal to NCAA to even just give the kid 1/2 year of extra eligiblity!

The news was just announced that NCAA denied the redshirt (medical hardship) on that basis, but the Texas A&M fans still apparently think they've been robbed.
