That used to be very common, as the best athletes in any high school were recruited by coaches to play multiple sports. However, it is rare anymore for top basketball prospects to play football, since the lower body training hurts their jumping ability, and with AAU and other year-round basketball activities, there is no time for both sports.
If it ever does happen, basketball is usually the secondary sport or it is a walkon.
Will was a good high-jump athlete, though. Does that count for toughness?

Did any of the current BU players play football in HS?
Ryan Phillips was the starting QB, for then Coach Doug Simper, and the Richwoods Knights.
I know he is a walk on, but he is currently on the team and has appeared in 3 games.
