I just want to keep from being embarrassed by and for the university again.
Mr Squirrel - if 10K wanted Braves and 2 thought it offensive and racist, then... appease the the few to keep them happy.

The University makes a laughable decision like ignoring the consensus to keep a few happy is just what has us in this situation to begin with.

You were embarrassed by and for the university? Do you feel the same about the name of the town you live in? The State you live in? Sometimes, you embarrass me and the pride in Bradley I have.

I just hope this mascot selection committee and chairman Dr. Mitch Griffin consider another important factor.... PRIDE.

Make sure the choice is for something all can take pride in and have pride for.

This whole 'marketability' crap makes me want to throw up. Marketing - schmarketing. Build a great product and it will sell. Therefore, have a great basketball program and the gear will sell - regardless.

But oh, wait.... the Akron Zips with their proud mascot of a kangaroo have sales going through the roof.

    WHO CARES?!?!?!

The Akron ZIPS needed a joke of a mascot to sell gear. When was the last time they had a great basketball team - when did they ever have a great basketball team?

But alas... I see what's on the horizon. A Flying/Fighting Squirrel running along the sidelines. I just hope there isn't any money in the budget to take the thing to the NCAA tourney for ESPN, CBS, and the rest of the world to get a laugh out of.

No. We're in this situation because the University FAILED to act responsibly when it had this opportunity nearly 15 years ago. The NCAA gave us an ultimatum, and he we are still trying to pussyfoot around the issue. Yes, I realize it's stupid we have to deal with it. But now it must be dealt with.

I have pride in all of the above. Maybe that's why it hurts when they all make mistakes. And they do make mistakes.

Amen. And I have no confidence that they will because I believe at least one person on the committee is opposed to the name "Braves" to begin with. I'm sure you care about that.

Another thing to consider is in 1937 when the name change to Braves took place, it was principally because it was unique.

(juries still out on this one. last year was fun and there is still the potential to build off that. but one three week period out of four years is not going to jade me)

Bottom line is I will not be upset if the squirrel doesn't get the mascot nod. But for a multitude of reasons, I believe it is far and away the no-brainer option.

We are in this situation because the NCAA has given in to P/C.

I can't win when there is a bleeding heart out there.

Go ahead - Give me the Squirrel or give me death!

Is that because you have to not have a brain to like the squirrel?
