Bradley is seeking ideas for a new mascot--

Let's help them out and submit some ideas.
Bradley has formed a mascot selection committee that has established 2 criteria--
1- must equally represent both genders and
2- must not have any Native American representation.
Ideally, the Braves???‚¬?„? mascot would be representative of Bradley University???‚¬?„?s and the region???‚¬?„?s history or tradition; original (not used by many schools); visually aggressive but not frightening; and compatible with the university???‚¬?„?s colors of red and white

Here are instructions from the release--
E-mail ideas for an appropriate mascot to bravesmascot@bradley.edu, or mail them to the chairman of the mascot selection committee--
    Dr. Mitch Griffin
    Bradley University
    1501 W. Bradley Avenue
    Peoria, Illinois 61625
on or before October 15, 2006.
Please include a brief rationale for your suggestion. The committee will be responsible for narrowing the list of proposed mascots for further consideration and public feedback.

This is Squirrel's dream come true.

I already know the #1 submission is gonna be the squirrel.

I don't know why I take such offense to it.

Suppose I ought to just give in.

Can't wait to wear my new hat/sweatshirt/t-shirt with a squirrel on it.

Received an e-mail from BU. They are working to correct the problem.

I did, too. I sent the Athletic Dept. a note to get the email address corrected. They are probably missing some of the best suggestions.

Here is the chairman of the mascot selection committee, Dr. Mitch Griffin. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois. He should know something about unique and marketable mascots, since he's a Saluki--

Maybe he won't mind getting mascot suggestions emailed directly to him? His direct email address from the Bradley website, is--
          mg@bradley.edu

my first suggestion was: please, i dont care how many squirrel suggestions you get, do not incorporate squirrels in any way.

              I used the e mail address mg@bradley.edu

and I just got this response from Mitch Griffin:

              ********************
              Thanks ....

It is fine to e-mail to this address, but the BravesMascot@bradley.edu address
              should be working correctly now.

Thanks for all the support of Bradley University and the Braves.

              Mitch

So if 10K people want squirrels and 50 don't, the smart move would be to adopt a bunny rabbit. Give me a break.

Seriously, I have a letter drafted but I'm not certain if I'm even going to submit it.

But no matter what decision the university makes unless it is a laughable one (i.e. ignoring a consensus to keep happy a few who are merely opposed to change), I will support it. If they do not, it will only result in failure.

I just want to keep from being embarrassed by and for the university again.

We do not want to have any more "Around the World" episodes where we got laughed out of St. Louis.

Also, the mg@bradley.edu email is currently the one linked on the site, although they still do offer the other link as well, but I don't know if its operable.

those were Mitch's words, not mine.

I know, but I should have been clearer.

Can someone clarify, we aren't changing the nickname are we just developing a mascot to use at the games, correct? Same scenario as using the bobcat back in the day, but still being called the Braves.

As I understand it, you are correct egib
The team will still be known as the Bradley Braves, but associated with the team and marketed as a "mascot" will be something to be chosen that will market well, and hopefully
make some money for the university as well as be unoffensive and draw attention away from the past history
of BU and its Native American logos of the past.

red hawks or flyin squirrels. i think either would make neat logos and mascots.
