Of course they love the money athletics bring. But if you tried to carry a convo with any of them you would really be surprised at how little they actually know or care about sports.
I'll take they know little about sports but they do know about the revenue that sports generate. I've had conversation about the sports program with a CIO of a major university and that was one department where funding was not a concern. Sad but true!

can't blame her, it's a private college, you need that mentality.

That being said, I think she's gonna have a little talk about JL's coaching career at bradley. If the coaching keeps making these mistakes and running teams like this, we aren't going to be a very impressive school for recruits...less recruits = less wins = less support = less money = less JL

JG does a great job about being concerned about the students, unfortunately the students want a pretty campus and a starbucks in the library....that closes at 1am!!!! sorry to vent, don't feel JG is doing as good a job as people seem to be saying
Well I think I have one good question to ask here. Why do students choose a particular university? Is it because of the athletics or because of the quality of education they would like to receive. I would hope to heck it is the latter!

Yeah, yeah, I know the "ideal" situation is a school that is great in "fill in the blank curriculum here" AND has a great basketball and/or football team. And obviously when deciding between the final two schools, school spirit, i.e. athletics is usually the deciding factor. But being a small private school that prides itself as one of the best small universities in the midwest, I would think JG would have more on her mind than how the men's basketball team is doing!

Here's my view on all of this. I think JG would fire Les for an off-the-court incident LONG before she fires him for poor performance on the court. The only exception I could see here is if the team performs very poorly over the next two years and she decides to take advantage of having a new AD here and put in one of their own guys into the head coaching position. But I think it would take a total collapse of the team for that to happen.

Why do I say that? Because as was alluded to above, the amount of support Les has from the trustees and the amount of donations he brings in would supercede what the record of his team is on the court. If the trustees however decide one day that donations will drop off unless they see better results on the court, well then JG I'm sure would change her position really quick. I just don't see that happening anytime in the forseeable future, and as I have stated on other threads, it's much too early to call this a season when we haven't even entered conference play yet.

So to sum things up, JG should continue to do what she does best, and that is making sure Bradley University maintains its academic reputation and making sure she sees to the needs of its students. That will always supercede athletics in all but a few of the athletic "crazy" universities.
