  • From a Cyclone Fan...

Very pleased with this game from my perspective. ISU finally played a complete game and took care of business (Except for the end, they again let the opponent close the gap instead of stepping on their throats).

I've read a few posts here where some people seemed to believe that Bradley's talent was as good (or better?) than ISU's. First off, no. That's just...not correct. However, I will agree with those who said ISU is not 20-30 points better. The Cyclones are certainly better though, no doubt.

A lot of people seem to be jumping ship here. Don't do that just yet. This loss isn't that bad. I'm not being a homer at all when I say this, Iowa State is a good team. A loss is a loss, so just take it and move on. Best of luck to you guys this year, and I fully believe you can finish top-5 in your conference.

Top 5! I hope and the problem is we have higher expectations then top 5. You guys were bigger and better at just about every position. I also loved the flex your team was running. Drake ran a similar O 2 years ago. I wish we ran something similar.

Sorry dude . . . BU is not the place for low expectations. No disrespect to ISU, but we expect to have better talent than lower- to mid-level BCS teams. If we don't, that's a problem. And this loss isn't the issue; the past three losses are the issue.

I understand this, at ISU we are eternal optimists as well. Question though, for what reason do you guys expect to be so much more talented than BCS-Conference teams???

This is purely from an outside and unbiased opinion, but when I think of the MVC, I think of (in this order) UNI, Creighton, and Southern Illinois. Bradley comes to mind as a middle-of-the-pack MVC team...Honestly. Not trying to disrespect you guys at all, just saying.

P.S. - I recall a Sweet 16 or two out of Bradley in recent years, but nothing much else...

I think this is the perception people here want to change (myself included), they want to be thought of at the top, and many think that should happen instantly, not really realistic though for it to happen that fast.

BU has been middle of ther pack. But it's one of several MVC teams that consistently beats out BCS programs for recruits. Bradley's talent has been better than its record under Les. You might recall the last couple ISU/BU games didn't work out too well for ISU. Just this year BU managed to handle Illinois but lost at home to Loyola and took a big terd at ISU. Also lost at home to Western Carolina. It's hard to reconcile these results. I don't think BU fans expect to be world beaters, but BU has a huge fan following and a great tradition. We expect to be on par with the Iowa States of the world, and sure didn't look it today.

The history of BU basketball is also probably top of the Valley pack instead of middle of the pack beyond the last 20 years. That is also probably why fans want more and rightfully so. I don't take any offense to what he said, as I think that is where the national perception is of BU right now until we earn more. I do think that is coming still with JL starting with the Sweet 16, although I will probably be bashed for saying that. I think of ISU as a middle of the pack to lower B12 team, and I'm sure that is a perception they would like to change as well.

Iowa St. is a better team this year no doubt, but to stomp on our tradition and say that we are a 2nd tier team is not realistic. Have we not won the last 2 of 3 meetings in this series? To knock on the Valley is hilarious considering one of your losses this year is to a Valley team. The reason that we have expect that we have more talent than a BCS conference is that we have beaten you guys and won this 3 game series. BUT YOU GUYS HAVE A BUNCH OF STUDS THIS YEAR! GOOD LUCK!

Don't see where he stomped our overall tradition. Lately who else would an outsider think of from the Valley but Creighton and ISU? He did give us credit for our 2006 Sweet 16 team. Probably too young, as many are, to remember our great tradition.

I guess maybe "stomp on our tradition" was a a little harsh, but to say that you are a Cyclone fan and don't think of BU when you think of the Valley after we have beat them in the past 2 meetings is a little misleading.

Yeah, guess he forgot the last 2 games.

First of all, I truly meant no offense at all to Bradley's team or tradition. Just to make that clear.

And as for the last few years and few meetings, ISU has really been sub-par and all of us in Cyclone Nation are very upset about that. We feel that we should be a program that continually beats teams in the MVC, which is why we get so upset over losses to Drake, UNI, etc. each year.

Someone asked about what we've done recently. The answer to that is really nothing, other than an NCAA Tourney appearance in 2005. In 2000 though we were in the Elite Eight (Arguably should've won that game against MSU) in what was for all intensive purposes the National Championship Game (MSU ran the table from there on out).

Plenty of solid seasons prior to that under Tim Floyd as well. We're just trying to get back to our glory days, and this year we feel we have the talent to make it back to the NCAA Tournament. Just don't know if we'll get there.

Well...For what it's worth...We've lost a lot to teams we feel our program shouldn't be losing to...So I didn't intentionally leave out Bradley or something..

Ohhhh, and one more comment I forgot to add... Iowa State has the second most Big 12 Championships in the conference behind KU I believe.
