  • All time Worst Home Buzzer Beaters

Last night's debacle debuts at #4 on my all-time list behind the folowing
    3) UNLV 3 point heave by a 6-10 guy
2)Coleco Buie revenge dagger in St. Louis
    1) Canisius Golden Griffins designed purposely missed 3 off glass to waiting big for a putback at horn.
    Butler and Texas-arlington are a close 5th.

-Last second rebound basket by Adam Emmenecker for Drake win at Carver in 2007-2008
-last second tip-in of a half court missed shot by Drake to upset Bradley in 1987 (Hersey's junior year).
-2/28/04 length of the court pass for a layup at the buzzer by Sylvester Willis for a 72-71 win by SIU. It prevented a Bradley upset at SIU after Mike Suggs had put Bradley up by 1 point with a long three pointer with 1.5 seconds left.

I remember a length of the court pass barely getting past James Gillingham for a game-winning layup (dunk?). Who were we playing?

Because of the events that led up to last night's debacle, I put it as #1 worst buzzer-beater in Carver history. I can't recall blowing a 12 point lead, shooting woefully from the FT line, getting worked on the glass, and having as bad of a final 2 minutes as last night leading up to a buzzer-beater. The fact that it was from half-court makes it all the worse.

Well, up to your last point of the buzzer beater, I can...

The rest have happened EVERY SINGLE home game so far this year.

I remember that one! It was as painful as they come. My Sr. year! We just never lost at home for quite some time.

Yes, that was the Sylvester Willis layup to win the game at SIU on 2/24/04 (see my post above). Most of us saw it on TV. BU had mounted a great comeback and took a 1 point lead on a very long 3-pointer by Mike Suggs, and I remember going nuts thinking we had won. But with about 1 second left, SIU threw a 90 foot pass that got over the BU defense and Willis caught it and laid it in.

As bad as the loss was this week. The Drake 1987 has to top any list. We were on probation that year and were banned from the MVC tournament. I believe a win in this game was for a tie for the conference championship. After going 32-3 the previous year and of course the following year being Hawk's great senior season, it would have been quite a feather in the cap of Stan to tie for the conference championship during that season.
