We are only about a month away from the start of the 2006-2007 college basketball season.
It all begins one minute after 11:59PM on Friday, October 13.
Some schools are doing a Midnight Madness, but I suspect BU will have their first practice on Saturday, October 14.
I just read a couple reports, here is what has been said about the Valley teams and their recent injuries.
Creighton-- Ty Morrison is currently being treated for hyperthyroidism. The forms of treatment vary from medicines to possibly surgery if the meds don't work.
Sometimes the meds that are used (thyroid activity blockers, beta blockers) do have a noticable effect on slowing metabolism and can affect athletic performance.
He apparently has not yet returned to playing basketball.
Creighton also had injuries to point guard Josh Dotzler, who underwent surgery and is rehabbing. There are some reports that he may not be ready for the start of the season but will likely be able to get back by the conference part of the season.
Nate Funk's recovery from surgery is reportedly going well.
He had surgery for a recurring tear in his left rotator cuff. Reports are that he is doing well and will be ready for the start of the season which is just a month away. It is sometimes difficult to get back full mobility from this kind of injury and surgery, especially for a pure shooter.
Drake-- returning guard Nick Grant played some in the offseason with a touring team of college kids who competed against some amateur teams in Denmark and Sweden.
It is the same team that Illinois' Chester Frazier played on.
In one of the games, Nick Grant suffered a dislocated shoulder.
No word yet on how severe.
Indiana State- Trent Wurtz isn't suffered a concussion and head injury that required 12 stitches and a stay in the hospital.
Jay Tunnell has a knee injury and hasn't been able to play either. He had surgery for the injury and may end up redshirting.
Mick Yelovich also suffered a concussion during the practices and has seen his playing time limited.
They have also lost Eric Gray who is no longer part of the team, and has been dismissed.
I haven't heard anything about any of the present Bradley players. If anyone does hear a report, let us know.
