I don't like JE coming off his R/S and I hope they R/S DSE. I understand WHY they had to with JE but my concerns are if he wasn't ready then...why would he be know.

I realize it MIGHT have been due moreso to numbers vs abiity but I still wonder.

Anyone recall who the last guy was they came off R/S after several games was.....it never worked out to well for him OR us.

Also...I hope people don't expect JE to be JC from the get go.

As I stated I don't like him losing the 5th year either as I think he could be really good by then, but I know I don't expect JC status from him right away. JC's play freshman year was pretty good, but he almost disappeared from the rotation sophomore year. So if we are comparing JC and JE in terms of careers a solid shooter and role player can be expected now, but I know I don't expect him to be JC junior senior year level right away by any stretch

The "I" just did not get deleted. As for not having anything to do with the thread. I think with the mood of this thread, with yet another injury, having seen the speech again last week and SLB's post made me post it. From a dieing man (coach) telling us it's not all bad and what we can do to make it "life"special! I guess I just wanted to post it

Well that works in any situation! Always humbling and inspiring to hear!

Tough to hear about DSE, I really liked the intensity he brought to the floor. That being said, he was/is only a freshman, I would hope that the hopes of the team were not resting on his shoulders! His injury obviously does not help us, but I don't think the injury guarantees us a lower finish in conference. Just like his presence did not guarantee a higher finish!

As for the team going bigger....I think we have the athletes/players to change the lineup to match up with the team we are playing. SS does not match up with really athletic bigs that can move without the ball and step out and hit the outside shot or make a drive to the basket. He doesn't match up with a big that will stay in the post and just post up or come out to set screens. So going big for the sake of going big doesn't make sense to me.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

I think I'd rather see JP come off the redshirt. No offense to JE, he impressed the few minutes he played in the preseason but I just think if I had to choose one that is more prepared for DI I'd go with JP. Also it would be promising that maybe JL was committing more towards a bigger lineup, and contemplating having a true 4 and 5 out there at the same time....

oh well I still think JE can do a very good job...hope he does.

The last Bradley player to come off a redshirt was in 1996-97 when freshman Michael Collins came off his redshirt to play in the absence of Anthony Parker who had to sit out 6 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot.
Incidentally, Collins started his first game in place of AP, and played very well his first few games. But, as I recall, eventually his performance dropped off quite a bit and he played less and less. After Parker returned from his injury, Collins rarely played, and then transferred to Wheaton College where he had a good career at Division III.

Not surprising given the previous coach's ability to make players want to jump ship.

To be honest, it s**ks losing DSE, but I did like what I saw out of JE in the preseason game. I know it wasn't much playing time but he didn't seem afraid to go to the rim. I, too, hope he gets some good minutes tonight because I think vs. Loyola, we should be able to pull away so there won't be too much pressure on him and he can get acclimated to the speed of D1 basketball in a game situation.

At the beginning of the season I was hoping that JP wouldn't redshirt and when he did, I was hoping it would be him that came off the redshirt if we needed somebody, but with two guards down now, it had to be JE and I think it will take a couple games until he finds his feet, but after he does, I think he will be a good player this season.

I do have a question though. People mentioned DSE using a medical redshirt. I understand he can't play in another game or he wouldn't be eligible anymore, but how long does the coaching staff have to decide to redshirt him? I couldn't remember if it was just until conference play began or when it was.

I was very excited to see how this team responds after losing to Western Carolina and now I'm even more excited because of JE. Hopefully he has a good game just to show himself that he can be a very good player at this level and hopefully get over any freshman nerves very quickly.

See you guys in about an hour and a half.

This means to me it is time for Eddren McCain to step up. DSE was pushing him and he was losing minutes more game by game. He now better take over and be who we all know he can be.

I hope Eastman can contribute but there is a reason he was redshirted, no idea if he was able to move his game to the D1 level in a few months but I do not anticipate huge minutes.

I wonder if JL thought about just moving Phillips up in the rotation to fill the 10th player?

I also remember we started out 3-5 without Parker and lost the first three games after he returned before Bradley won 13 out of their last 17 to play their way into the NIT. I think this team is a lot deeper, but what a shame this team has yet another injury to deal with!

Well, hopefully we can keep tread water and still pull out a great season. I still think we got plenty to work with this year.

Medical redshirts are given after the season by the NCAA. I believe the coach can elect to redshirt DSE right now, and does not need the NCAA approval. DSE could then, in theory, get another year if he becomes injured again (a la Sam Singh).

a la Sam Singh? so we are going to have DSE for a total of 6 years
