Both are Class of 2007 and will be eligibile for the 2007-2008 season.
One is Lamont Austin, 5'11" point guard
He chose Missouri State from a few schools that had shown interest (Wichita State, Iowa State, Illinois State, SIU) but I cannot find any report that Austin had offers yet from anyone other than Barry Hinson, despite an impressive list of schools (see below) that were looking at him and recruiting him.
What I find odd is that before and during his junior season the kid was getting interest from Cincinnati, Kansas, Oklahoma State, UNLV, Miami (FL), Mississippi and other big schools.
Here's an article from last season labelling the kid the best player in Kansas:
But then even after he had a great junior season and was an all stater, apparently something happened, and he bounced around between a couple different AAU teams, and recruiting interest fell off. I found one note that as of last summer, he had not yet passed his ACT, but he's still got his senior year ahead of him.
Seems like there's a puzzle piece missing here but either way, it seems like Missouri State got a kid who was being recruited by a lot of bigger schools.
In a strange twist, the other kid who committed is the high school teammate of Austin, Kyle Weems.
This kid is an A-student, so no concerns about qualifying.
Weems was not as highly recruited as Austin, but had interest from Nebraska, WSU, Cornell, NIU.
Both players are listed in the scout/insiders database as 2-Star, but neither is listed nor graded by Rivals.
