Nate Minnoy has never impressed me. If Sampson wants him, he can have him. FWIW, I think Tim Flowers is better than Minnoy, but without the fanfare.

Speaking of Flowers, O.J. Mayo was so impressed with him this summer, he has demanded that Tim Floyd offer him a scholarship. BU is among the finalists for Flowers, as well as USC.

Seems like Minnoy just wasn't cut out for the Big Ten.
I think the rumors about IU are hogwash.
Here are a couple thoughts from back in January when he got hurt.

I agree. I thought the same thing about Sergio McClain. Illini fans loved him, but he was an underachiever at Illinois IMO.

Interesting commentary, as Matt Painter was brought in the way he was solely for stability,
so the players would stay and so the players there would be the ones he wanted.
Something went very wrong in this case.

Another interesting theory I have heard, maybe the Mike Suggs scenario.
Minnoy was likely to get big playing time, he was announced just a couple weeks ago as a sure
starter and sure team leader, and then, poof, he's gone not only without an explanation,
but even without an answer why an explanation was NOT given.
My guess, likely it was the Suggs case scenario and
the univ. is bound by secrecy to clam up.

hoopsnet just picked PU #68 overall and #7 in the Big Ten.
Get back to me if you really think that's realistic.

There's a thread on the Redbirds board titled
"Would love to see Nate Minnoy at ISU"

                  Yeah--right
Any way, I read where Porter Moser had to have achilles tendon repair. anyone know hopw this happened?

One other thing if anyone knows.
In the USAToday report about the Missouri Valley, they say this about the ISU point guard situation.

                  ILLINOIS STATE

                  GETTING INSIDE
When Illinois State shot just 32 percent and scored 45 points in its Missouri Valley Conference Tournament loss to Evansville, Redbirds coach Porter Moser called it, "a culmination of a season I've never been a part of where we were just completely decimated at point guard.

"Tonight just magnified it as many, many games have this year. That's one thing we will absolutely address in the off-season."

Enter freshman Boo Davis, who just might be a reason for things to be looking up with this team. He's young, he's exciting and he should help the Redbirds improve on a 9-19 season.

He joins a lineup that has good players who haven't learned how to win yet. That's something that could change ???‚¬??? but this league is better than it has been in a long time, so a transformation for the bottom teams isn't the easiest thing to accomplish.

                  NOTES, QUOTES
THE GOOD NEWS: Last year actually did come to an end and the program could look to the future. That future could be in the hands of incoming freshman guard Boo Davis, being counted on to come in and light a fire under this team ???‚¬??? but there is experience coming back and those guys just have to play better. The emergence of Roberto Fortes late in the season as a scorer (14.8 points per game the last six games of the regular season) gives the Redbirds something to build on in 2006-07.

THE BAD NEWS: The Redbirds lost 19 games last year, failing to reach double figures in wins. That leaves a bad taste ???‚¬??? and a talent for losing that much be overcome. Davis should help, but there's work to be done.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "As a coach, when you go watch players play to evaluate them it is usually a businesslike approach, but when watching Boo, I found myself becoming a fan. I got excited by some of the plays he made and just his overall toughness." ???‚¬??? Coach Porter Moser on incoming freshman point guard Boo Davis

                  STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
NBA BOUND: No one was taken in the NBA draft.

KEY RETURNEES: Guard Roberto Fortes and forward Levi Dyer both showed a lot to Porter Moser once their minutes were raised late in the season. Those two need to take the next step forward and become leaders for the 2006-07 squad. Greg Dilligard actually led this team in scoring last year at just 9.9 points per game.

THE COACH: Porter Moser came to Illinois State hoping to become the first person ever to play on and coach a Missouri Valley champion (he played on one at Creighton). In his three years on the job, he is 36-41, with only one winning season (17-13 in 2004-05).

ROSTER REPORT: Greg Dilligard was selected as one of the five players on the league's Most Improved team after last season.

Guard Eric Vianney is transferring out of the Illinois State program. Vianney cited a lack of playing time as his reason for leaving after seeing 39 minutes of action as a freshman in 2005-06.

Anthony Slack, a 6-7 forward who played at Coffeyville Community College, filled out the new recruiting class when he committed in April. He joins former teammate Boo Richardson ???‚¬??? one of two Boos on the roster ???‚¬??? on the Illinois State squad.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHO THIS GUY DAVIS IS?

Boo Davis played for UW-M, he never played for and is not at ISU, and this report that repeatedly says Boo Davis is a new point guard at ISU and that he's different guy than the Boo Richardson they have, clearly way discredits whoever is the numbskull writing this review totally.
And on top of that it's like been posted on USAToday for over a month and apparently nobody's even noticed it.
Maybe nobody cares, after all it is ISU.

Here is the only logical answer for such an absolutely error filled assessment of ISU claiming there are two guys named Boo on the team.

The only place in the entire world that names a guy "Boo Davis" as being on ISU, are a few, scarce, incorrect comments on the ISU message board that simply fudge the guy's name and call him Boo Davis instead of Boo Richardson.

So the guy who wrote the USAToday piece must have gleaned the Redbird message board as the ony source for his entire preview on ISU.
In other words, the silly error of saying there's a guy named Boo Davis on ISU could ONLY have come from misinterpreting the mistakes made by some posters on the Bird-board and assuming that the two Boo's are two different guys.
I agree, this completely discredits the USAToday writer.
He never bothered to check his facts, and printed what he found on the message board as if he'd checked it out himself, quotes included.

Those comments on RBF by RBF posters were all made in jest after this joker wrote the article. We have been aware of it since it came out. The guy who wrote it is a moron and now we have a running joke of sorts over there about how Boo Davis will save our season and crap like that. We tried to have fun with it.

The truth is, we have no clue how he screwed the piece up that bad. He got ISU confused with another school apparently and thought he knew one Boo from the other. He didn't get it from our board that's for certain.

Porter tore his achilles playing in a charity basketball game over the weekend. Some 3-on-3 tourney, I think.

                              Thanks Danny,
then that is a far better explanation, as I really couldn't figure why the guys on Redbirdfan who are pretty sharp fans were using the name Boo Davis.
I never saw any previous discussion about this bone headed report by the USAToday writer who is coincidentally namesless in this piece.
