  • Bruce Weber & Wayne McClain comments on Bill Cole

Bruce kinda takes a swipe at certain people in Peoria who apparently were trying to get Bill Cole to leave Illinois and transfer..

and Wayne McClain's remark seems a little insulting, calling Cole "the dumbest high ACT scorer in the country".
it is a premium link, but I'll quote a little bit...

(Re: Bill Cole -direct cut and paste quotes.)
"I think all year, he's just accepted his role. There was some talk last spring
about him leaving and I don't think he ever wanted to, but maybe some
people around him in Peoria and stuff. A lot of rumors spread quickly and he
said he wanted to be a part of this. I said 'This is how you be part of it, you
do things other than shooting -- rebound, guard somebody. He's finally using
    his ACT as a positive.
Coach McClain always says he's the dumbest high ACT scorer in the country."

I'll bet Cole's parents are real pleased to hear this. If he were my kid I think I'd be having a "little" chat with Brucie and Waynie Mac.

Bill's minutes have been up quite a bit so far this season. He is averaging 15 mpg, more than double his minutes in either of his previous seasons. He averaged 6.8 mpg as a freshman and 4.5 mpg as a soph.-

However, his scoring is not up significantly, and his three point shooting is the worst it has ever been in his Illini career- just 23%. And he has never been better than a 50% free thrower, which is hard to understand.

I expect his minutes will decease significantly now that Illinois is done playing the unathletic cupcakes on their non-conference schedule.
And with the development of Tyler Griffey and the coming of Meyers Leonard, who is a much better prospect, I expect his playing time will be negligible next year. Too bad.
