On Vercase and recruiting. He was a master recruit. He could finr a dimond in the rough i.e. HH and HS players who were getting recruited by the big boys, i.e. Donald Powell and Anthony Manuel. AM was being courted by none other then Georgetown one of the best programs in the 80s. DV had an arogant personality that translated well with recruits during that time.
You know, I hear this type of recruiting talk about Versace, yes he did very well with Anderson, Hawkins, etc but many, I think do forget, that after the NIT and when Barone left, BU basketball, though competitve, went through a little of a lean time.

No NIT's or NCAA's from the graduation of Anderson to Hawks' sophmore year. 3 years I believe. There were at that time often recruiting misses. Nolan Gibson, Booker Johnson, Roosevelt Davidson, heck he is the one who gave the notorius Mike Cash a scholorship.

Before he got Les and Williams as transfers his program was in a bit of a funk. Losing Barone was huge, gaining the transfers and striking lightning in a bottle with Hawkins was I would bet job saving for Versace.

    16-13 10-8 MVC
    15-13 7-9 MVC
    17-13 9-7 MVC

In the 3 years following the graduation of Anderson Reese.

Anyway, not every person you bring in will workout but, also for many when your saying lets get rid of Les or have issues with what he does, even the coach who brought to BU, Id say 4 of its 10 best teams ever to play at BU... I am counting Stans 88 team he coached/watched but that was Versaces team, went through a tough time.

I will guarantee you this program today is going in the right direction... biggest thing 06 should taught us is college basketball is a marathon and if you get hot, come togehter as a team and us as fans have some patience... amazing things can happen.

I was very upset about getting beat by WCU, but I had to remember you do not win anything to remember in December.

We won a game in November that I will never forget... and since it is likely the last time we will see UIUC for a long while, I won't let my Illini friends forget about that game in November.

The new facilities will help, but don't expect them to automatically put Bradley in recruiting company with the state schools and the BCS-type schools. Bradley coaches are still at a significant disadvantage. Thanks to the bias in the national press coverage, the stingy number of at-large bids going to midmajors, and the NCAA working hard to preserve their dollars for the big-boys, the great majority of high school kids around the country have never heard of Bradley.

Coach, Very blunt and honest post. Part of the beauty of being a fan of Bradley Basketball is the underdog factor, imo.

It was a win of a game, I want MVC championships, NCAA appearances and wins when we get there. One win regardless of who it was versus in the regular season should not be a defining moment of a season, especially in Nov.

Just my opinion but we as a program should be past celebrating wins for weeks in the regular season. Sorry but I look at the what have you done for me lately.

I agree, great post coach. The new facility will help but it wont be like flipping a switch.

The program is headed in the right direction. The change does not happen quickly. But rather over several years.

                Same here!!!!!!!!!!!
                Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
