That's true, but practice makes perfect. This teams radically inconsistent FT shooting is a possibility of not enough FT shooting in practice. Maybe concentrating to much time on the D which Les continuously harps and raves about.

I never thought we would be a lock for the NCAA. I always thought we would have to win the MVC to get in regardless. Next year is the year I was pointing to but if this is the type of performance we can expect I'm downgrading my expectation. I was not going to have a drink tonight but I needed a few glasses of wine to keep my blood pressure in check."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

Win the MVC tourney or saddle up for another spirited run in the CBI, CIT, or XYZ Tourney.
That's where we stand...again.???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

And how does anyone see this team going 14-4 in conf??? Are you kidding? What last night proved to me was that our coach doesn't know when to call a timeout, we still can't shoot free throws, Maniscalco can't hit shots in the first 36 minutes of games or defend against other team's better players, and our upperclassmen will struggle against other senior and junior-laden teams(UNI, WSU,CU) in conference. I'll still stick with 12-6 as best case scenario, but more than likely we will only win 2-3 roadies in conf and stumble once or twice at home, so our usual 10-8 matinee appearance is a better bet at this point. At what point does C+/B- not cut it anymore?

Unfortunately, last night it came to me this team maybe playing to its potential. The Illinois game was the exception, not the rule.
If BU can't find a way to win at home vs WC, I struggle to see how it will win on the road consistently in the Valley this year. Whoever said 10-8 for BU this year in con play, which should be good enough for a 6th place finish in the Valley BTY , is a modern Nostradomus!
Coaches can't teach players to shoot???? Weren't JL supporters saying one of JL's strengths as a coach was his great shooting should allow him to teach his players how to shoot better. I'll have to search the JS archieves.
I guess coaches will just have to recruit players who can shoot better
Tornado was right, BU's preseason schedule is way tougher than we, or apparently even BU players, thought
Sorry, I guess I just fell off the positive thinking bandwagon again...BUilding for the Future

We're not disqualified until we're disqualified, but I would say this significantly decreases our chances. We all know "mid-majors" face huge problems getting recognition. We really need a better resume than a Big Ten school all things equal. The only reason we got an at large bid in 06 was because of our win streak combined with the selection committee having a thing for mid-majors that year.
Not that we cant compete, we're just the "red headed step child" as they say. We have to work harder and be better for the same chances.

Let's see how Bradley adjusts in their next few games. It's how a team reacts to a loss like this that will tell how well they will do the rest of the way. If this team is under .500 in the Valley at the halfway point, then I completely agree that we should be concerned. But we're not there yet. And we have not even entered conference play yet. So I'd wait and see awhile before we jump to conclusions about this team.

Well said Bravesfan. I agree and I hope the team responds. It's just disappointing to me that a team that benefited from pre-season play struggles against both bad (Presby) and mediocre teams (WCU, Wofford, Lewis, & Id. St.) at HOME. I know these games could be considered "practice" for the Valley season, and I know we're already dealing with injuries, but this SHOULD NOT happen against this caliber of team at HOME.

I don't know what the problem is with this team aside from inexperience playing together and a bad habit of playing down to a team's talent level. I'm hoping these are the only problems. If so, last night's loss could be the kick start this team needs to realize that they need to take EVERY opponent seriously.

I posted in the new AD thread regarding a comment by another posting how Xavier, Butler and Gonzaga don't lose at home to the "Western Carolina" type team. Not picking on that poster, just trying to get it into perspective. Here is some of what I posted and some other info to chew on.

Those are some pretty darn good programs to aspire to be as good as. I welcome Cross to the Hilltop and hope he does well for Bradley.
But getting back to those 3 programs....
In the last 5 years, those 3 teams haven't lost many games at home. Worst Non-Conference home losses in the RPI for those 3 teams in the past 5 years:
Butler - lost to #163 Indiana St in '05-'06 season
Gonzaga - lost to #113 Portland St in '08-'09 season
Xavier - lost to #77 Bucknell in '06-'07 season
Bradley's worst Non-Conference home loss based on RPI in the last 5 seasons goes to #54 VCU in the '07-'08 season.
After Western Carolina beat Bradley last night, they have moved up to #25 in the RPI this season. (I know it's early to look at the RPI right now - just as it is early to consider losing to Western Carolina as such a terrible loss right now)
Also:
In the last 5 seasons, here are the Non-Conference losses with RPI's for each team.
Xavier = 5 losses
to #24 Butler 08-09
to #29 Miss St 04-05
to #39 Mia-Oh 04-05
to #44 Creighton 04-05
to #77 Bucknell 06-07
Gonzaga = 4 Losses
to #7 Memphis 08-09
to #8 Memphis 06-07
to #23 Washington St 07-08
to #113 Portland St 08-09
Butler = 3 Losses
to #7 SIU 06-07
to #10 Drake 07-08
to #163 Indiana St 05-06
Bradley = 3 Losses
to #16 Michigan St 07-08
to #24 Butler 08-09
to #54 VCU 07-08
