  • Ohio State's Evan Turner fractures vertebra- out for 8 weeks

Westchester St. Joseph's Evan Turner, is now a junior at Ohio State. He was an early leading candidate for National Player of the Year after getting off to a tremendous start. He fell hard while attempting a dunk early in their game this afternoon against Eastern Michigan. Reports are that he has fractured the transverse processes of the 2nd and 3rd lumbar vertebrae. This is a painful injury that takes a long time to heal. Turner will be out 8 weeks, according to the first report from the team, but it will likely be longer for him to return to 100%, since this injury usually requires avoiding running or exercising for most of that time.

Here is the official release from Ohio State-
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Note this earlier erroneous report from the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper that the Xrays were negative and Turner would be released from the hospital and would be fine and likely play the next game. This article even contains quotes from Thad Matta and teammates regarding the negative findings. Where did this come from?-

That's always tough. He was playing really well but it would be bad even if he wasn't....

Most here might recall that Evan Turner was very close to transferring to Bradley after his freshman season. Would have been nice...

8 weeks? Incredible. Would you risk hurrying back?

It's been couple weeks for former BU recruits-
Iman Shumpert, who chose Georgia Tech over Bradley a couple years ago, will miss up to 6 weeks after surgery to repair a torn meniscus cartilage in his right knee.

Man that was a scary injury. Very lucky he isn't paralyzed. Thankfully he should recover fine. Link below has video of the dunk and fall.

Ohio State star Evan Turner will miss 8 weeks after breaking bones in his back when he fell while dunking during Saturday's game against Eastern Michigan.

another Ohio State guy - now in the pros, Greg Oden, fractured his left patella (kneecap)-
this is an extremely difficult injury to get healed in less than 3 month...and he may be out for the season...

Yeah Oden's already out for the season. He had microfracture surgery on his left knee last season and now this right knee injury this season. I think his "young age" is catching up with him LOL.

Hey Jason. I'm not sure I follow what you're saying about Oden. Is this a reference to the fact that he looks like he's 40? Or, has it been shown that he's actually much older then he claims? Thanks.

No, still no proof that he's older than he says he is but it's pretty obvious by looking at him. Your knees and your back are generally the first things to go out when you get older. The moment he stepped on that court, his left knee went out after 61 games last season and his right knee went out after 21 games this season. He still had talent though and has his millions of dollars no matter how old he is.

Haha, Greg isn't lying about his age. He's from my hometown. I didn't know him terribly well, but I know how old he is.

Big men are also much more susceptible to injury because of their size... no conspiracy theory here.
