I guess that's part of it that just doesn't make sense in translating a college football "system" to college basketball teams, or is it college basketball conferences? Either way, I don't see DePaul participating in the "BCS", so I still don't agree with the whole "BCS" term being used in college basketball."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

If the Big East ever goes all football and moves forward without the Marquettes, DePauls, St Johns of the Big East world DePaul will not go forward as a Large, prefered or BCS type of basketball school. Your arguement likely holds water for Marquette and/or St Johns but DePaul will be on an island begging for someone IE Notre Dame, Marquette, Butler etc to pair with them and hopefully have some pull nationally.
Oh and Chicago is not a DePaul city it is a University of Illinois city first and foremost for college then Notre Dame, Wisconsin with DePaul way down the list of interests in that city.

I still think this conference:
Bradley
Butler
Creighton
Dayton
DePaul
Detroit
Drake
Marquette
St. Louis
Xavier
(with alternates Loyola Chicago and Valparaiso)
would be great for all the teams involved and a formidable basketball conference that should command 4-6 NCAA bids each year and be able to secure a TV contract. A basketball only power conference. I think securing such a conference before the BCS football split that people foresee comes along would be fortuitous. Detroit's only there because they're a private school and in Detroit... Valpo may be a better choice, but no really good TV market there.

It's all about conference affiliation plain and simple. Doesn't matter if schools like DePaul, Marquette, Seton Hall, St. Johns, etc don't even field football teams.
Being a conference member in a BCS conference for basketball has it's privileges. Like it or not.
