They just happen to play basketball in a CBS, ESPN approved league. When there is realignment DePaul will not be BCS, they are only given that consideration because of conference affiliation.

Yes.....but right now DePaul is a "BCS" team. I guess that's part of it that just doesn't make sense in translating a college football "system" to college basketball teams, or is it college basketball conferences? Either way, I don't see DePaul participating in the "BCS", so I still don't agree with the whole "BCS" term being used in college basketball.

You are both wrong regarding DePaul. DePaul has one thing that it brings to the table that it hard to match and that is the metropolitan area of Chicago. Do you know how much money that brings in to the Big East? Money is what makes a BCS school and regardless of wins or losses DePaul brings in the bacon.

So it doesn't have anything to do with the "Bowl Championship Series" system for determining the college football national champion?

SFP... when the Big East realigns, and DePaul is left out of the realignment, where do they and all their money go and stay BCS? I do not care if they are sponsored by Bill Gates himself, their money and their location have absolutely nothing to do with their moniker of BCS. They are only considered Major because they are located in the Big East. They are less BCS then any school within a BCS conference.

If the Big East ever goes all football and moves forward without the Marquettes, DePauls, St Johns of the Big East world DePaul will not go forward as a Large, prefered or BCS type of basketball school. Your arguement likely holds water for Marquette and/or St Johns but DePaul will be on an island begging for someone IE Notre Dame, Marquette, Butler etc to pair with them and hopefully have some pull nationally.

Oh and Chicago is not a DePaul city it is a University of Illinois city first and foremost for college then Notre Dame, Wisconsin with DePaul way down the list of interests in that city.

I think I agree with houston on this one SFP. Sure DePaul is in Chicago but do they really "bring in the bacon"? They have very low attendance and little following in the Chicago area anymore. I think the Illini now rule the roost in Chicago. Maybe back when you were at Bradley that held true but no more. DePaul is probably more of a drag on the Big East because all of the successful programs must split their revenue equally with a losing, non-contributor like DePaul. DePaul benefits big-time from being in the Big East, but do they really deserve it? I think they are a much better fit for the Horizon League. I'd be shocked if they ever ended up in the MVC.

I heard one reason they went with such an easy schedule was to try to help Osiris get to the school record. If they happen to win 25 then its a bonus.

If you're talking about scoring, I don't see that happening!

You are overthinking this. It's just an easy way to label the six "power" conferences - B10, Pac 10, SEC, ACC, B12, Big East - as they are the ones that get automatic BCS bids in football.

                          I still think this conference:

                          Bradley
                          Butler
                          Creighton
                          Dayton
                          DePaul
                          Detroit
                          Drake
                          Marquette
                          St. Louis
                          Xavier
(with alternates Loyola Chicago and Valparaiso)

would be great for all the teams involved and a formidable basketball conference that should command 4-6 NCAA bids each year and be able to secure a TV contract. A basketball only power conference. I think securing such a conference before the BCS football split that people foresee comes along would be fortuitous. Detroit's only there because they're a private school and in Detroit... Valpo may be a better choice, but no really good TV market there.

Exactly, which still doesn't make sense why DePaul and a number of other schools should be considered "BCS" basketball teams. I just don't like the term because it really doesn't make sense.

It's all about conference affiliation plain and simple. Doesn't matter if schools like DePaul, Marquette, Seton Hall, St. Johns, etc don't even field football teams.

Being a conference member in a BCS conference for basketball has it's privileges. Like it or not.

unfortunately until someone in the Valley starts beating someone in a major conference, the Valley will get little press.......
Portland alone has garnered more hype and writeup than the entire Valley thus far.
