If you win, you gain little with the RPI. If you lose, well it's obviously bad in many ways.

Illinois gains nothing from a BU series.
    Not picking on you....

I just want to point out, in the 2007 season, Illinois' BEST Non-Conference win that season was over #38 Bradley in the RPI. Their next best win in the Non-Conference was over #92 Miami-Ohio and then #93 Missouri.

In the B10, they beat only the bottom 3 teams in the conference on the road (#190 Minnesota at 3-13 in B10; #177 Northwestern 2-14; and #199 Penn St 2-14)

Illinois was on the bubble that season with a fairly weak resume (which had some nice wins at home and even with their lofty #29 RPI) but got an At-Large as a #12 seed... likely one of the last few teams in.

It helped to beat a non-conference top 50 RPI team (Bradley) on a neutral floor that year.

My post mentions that we just had the best win for the program in three years and we should be embracing that instead of running down other schools and it gets deleted. Why?

Bullcrap. All the other BT schools play in-state rivals every year because they aren't chickensh*ts. Illinois has had this baseless fear of any team in this state with a pulse since the Henson era. Their logic is "we have nothing to gain". Baloney! How about gaining experience for your team against a non-cupcake team? It's gutless is all it is.

Maybe if we are all obnoxious enough the Illini fans will demand it. I for one have done my part

It is not going to happen. The NCAA has without words told BCS's your non conference really does not matter, you do not have to go on the road and if you schedule you are better off scheduling other BCS's and/or low majors.

CBS, ESPN, and the NCAA only want a handful of non BCS's. Non BCS's just do not pay bills. Unless it is Gonzaga who is now marketable and a household name.

All of this though can change if we can make NCAA noise and only NCAA noise. The other post season tourneys mean nothing nationally. But it takes NCAA success, not just going.

Had to see that one coming didn't we?

Easily. However, if the opportunity presented itself, I hope we'd make the trip to Champaign. I'm all for playing anyone, anywhere and not running and hiding from the "big boys" just because they won't come here.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

We definitely have to start scheduling single away games against the big boys with out expecting a home game in return. Shaunguth is correct in saying anywhere too. Let's go play the ACC, SEC, B12, P10 whenever we can get on the court with them.

That's the only way to make the leap, IMO. That's how Gonzaga and Butler did it. Memphis, too.

He got into this tour. figuring Illinois would be playing OK.St. in the championship game and they would not be playing BU, funny how things work out. He should be looking at why Ill. plays so many non-conf. patsies at home and might just be the reason they lose to good teams on the road or on neutral sites.

I think that was his thinking exactly, I guess he also figured his team would be able to hold a 16 point lead against an average at best Utah team...but you can't pencil in anything in D1 hoops

Kinda funny when I think of Bobby Knight's reaction to getting beat by Indiana St in the 1999-00 season. If I remember correctly, Bobby Knight went to their locker room after the game to congratulate them, told them not to make this one game their whole season, and told them how they are a good team and encouraged them on in the rest of their season. Hmmmm......
