Coach Les is now overall 129-106, and of all the head coaches BU has had, Jim now ranks 6th overall in total wins......and may be able to pass each of the next four guys ahead of him in the next 3-4 years....if we keep on the 20 game pace.

(for comparison, 7 season into his career as a head coach, Dana Altman had 104 wins. Even at the end of his 8th season, he still had fewer than Coach Les has now, just 119. Thus Jim Les has reached this point, 129 wins faster than any other coach in the Missouri Valley )

Funny how a coach can build up so many wins without finishing higher than tied for 4th in his league. Must have something to do with extra games played in post-season tournaments that never used to be around a few years back?

Just goes to show how statistics don't always tell the whole story. I tell my statistics students that all the time. If there is a number, there is something behind it--so watch out and be critical. Especially if it comes from the government or CNN!

I disagree with your premise but agree numbers can lie. With 7 extra wins over the last two seasons you have to include the 3 addl losses, so it's not quite as skewed as you would make it seem - something like 122 - 103. The alphabet soup post season tournaments have only been around a couple of years so it's not that hard to figure out.

1. How many games did it take Dana to get to 119?
2. What was Dana's winning percentage over 7 seasons?
3. How many conference titles did Dana have over 7 seasons?
4. How many top 3 conference finishes did Dana have over 7 seasons?
4. How many single-digit loss seasons did Dana have over 7 seasons?

Ok...how about even Jim Molinari?

You also would have to analyze who the teams played each year, how good those teams were that year, and the list goes on and on... Using the same argument as the first post, if ISU continues to schedule like it has the past couple years their coach will become the winningest coach in league history...

Finally, apparently there are people in this world who would rather have Jim Les as their coach than Dana Altman if there was a choice. Unfortunately, that choice is not a possibility.

Give me a break. Jim's had 1 NCAA appearance in 7 years with 2 wins. Dana has had 7 in 11 years with 2 wins. I'd rather be there nearly every year than once in blue moon, even if we went out in the 1st round all but twice.

The Sweet 16 was great and all, but the season as a whole was frustrating, and I don't want to be clinging to that one miracle run like the Bears still cling to 1985.

Exhausting...These incessant Les-Altman, McCain-Dillard, Egolf-Falker comparisons are embarrassing.

Fair enough argument, but Jank's scheduling seems like a transparent effort to use ISU as a bridge job to a higher level. Schedule for lots of W's and make yourself more of a hot commodity in the eyes of some BCS athletic directors. So doubt he'll be around long enough to break any records.

I am not a JL apologist, but have never felt that the BU schedules in his tenure here have been soft or lacked quality opponents. Personally, anomaly or not, I think there is more talent & depth available over the next 2-3 years (incl this year) and if there is no step-up at BU in that time then it's time to move on.

That's so funny as I was just listening to The Cars Greatest hits the other day in my car. They had a lot of good stuff... Especially the entire first album.
