Looks like Iowa State outscored Drake's last opponent, IUPUI, who scored 88 points. Drake will go to 0-2, with 2 home losses to start the season.
And their defensive average is now 89 ppg.

      Iowa State 90
      Drake 70

Next: Drake plays 4 straight road games.

BYU guard Jimmer Fredette is calling this a "rivalry" game-

Yep, attendance was gross. We are a fan base spoiled by our recent success and the 13-18 season has left a very bitter taste in alot of casual fans' mouths.

Game went pretty well however, was in hand from the tip despite the score. SIU put 5 players in double figures for the second time in as many games this season.

Dillard put up 16 and 10 dimes, he is a stud. Freeman has been very good as well. The back court will be dynamite this season, everything hinges on the bigs who have been good against inferior competition but inexperience will likely show in conference play.

UIUC won by 19 over NIU.

I am sure Bradley fans who also root for UIUC know it.

But I won't be surprised to see a "real fan" of Bradley start a seperate thread of UIUC's glorious win over NIU.

Iowa State's sixth man LaRon Dendy was out today for the second straight game but we still rolled in Des Moines. Staiger went 10 of 16 from three as Drake kept playing a sagging zone to try and keep Brackins from exploding and it came back to bite them as Lucca used it as shooting practice as did Scott Christopherson (3 for 5). Drake has some decent young players, but they are going to struggle a ton this year with their lack of defense and rebounding.

Iowa State has depth this year I have never seen as a Cyclone fan. We play 10 deep and even have players after that that are pretty solid. Does it mean we will be great or much improved? Too early to tell. But at least it means we won't face another season like last year where we seemed to run out of gas in the second half every game and this year, if our starters are having a tough night, we have legit options behind them.

good for them, as it seems every recruiting target BU just misses out on ends up at Iowa State
                    Anyway, Lucca finally busted out...

Closer than the score indicates...as NIU was within 3 in the 2nd half and matched UIUC in points in the paint and rebounding, but didn't get to the FT line 30 times like Illinois did with Big Ten boy Ed Hightower calling the game.
Bill Cole got 14 minutes! He scored as much as Semrau & Stan Simpson combined.
Kansas is also quite possibkly facing the NCAA soon as apparently some dirty stuff is coming out from under the carpet in the Kansas football program.

Proves BYU is the real deal..and is very good!

                    Several other surprises last night!!

                    --More struggles at Kansas!!
Kansas barely escaped with a season opeing 2 point win, and only score 57 (57-55) over Memphis. Only FOUR Kansas players scored more than a basket and only five even scored a single basket!!
Memphis goes 6-25 from 3-pt and 19-55 overall and loses by two!

--Powerful Arizona State barely edged TCU 52-49

--USC didn't look very dominating over UC Riverside. USC has 19 guys on their roster but played only 7 - and the starters went most of the way.

--bad new for ISU as Grambling and St. bonaventure lose...
and it's already shaping up that every one of ISU's non-conference foes already is edging toward 300 RPI's
                    http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Illinois%20St.

--Iowa loses to Duquesne but Southern Miss beats one of its numerous NAIA foes, and Mizzou draws only 6000!

                      Kansas/Memphis

I don't know how many of you watched this last night, but this may have been one of the most poorly coached games I've witnessed recently (on both sides.) While there were alot of really athletic players on the court, it looked like open gym at the Y. And both teams couldn't reach 60 points. Dribble down, launch up a three pointer, run to the other end. After watching Mich St./Gonzaga and how well those teams are coached this game was really tough to watch.

The Louisville/Arkansas game was pretty much the same, and was close for a while but the sheer size and talent of all those 6-9 guys Louisville has ended up giving them quite an advantage.
But seriously, not once did it look like they were actually playing or doing anything they had practiced..
it was just run and gun, run and jack...
the two teams jacked up 131 shots total - one every 18 seconds - (57 went in total for an overall shooting pct. of 43%) and 51 of them were 3-pointers (Louisville alone was 15-38 on 3-pointers!) with 35% going in.
Add to that 46 FT's being shot and it then means 177 times the ball going up...they're going to have to repaint the rims!!

Indiana State had 11 assists. Quite a jump from the night before.

Bradley will have a minimum of six games against schools named ISU this season.
