  • Will?

Does anyone have any insight on why Will's minutes have been limited so far? Is it the knee?

I feel as though he hasn't played great, but he hasn't gotten the minutes to be more consistent and we play much better as a unit with him on the floor.

Just look at the screen he set to free Sammy for the 3 w/ a minute to go to put the game away.

Yeah, wondering a bit too... Maybe still getting his legs under him? He's been a little shaky on the floor, but has been the best post player we have out there by a long shot.

Even if he is playing limited minutes right now because of getting the knee back up to speed, I think he's being misused when he's in there. The guy could easily go for 10 ppg inside, and he has 8 FG attempts in 2 games. Terrible.

Seems to me alot of the lesser amount of attempts are reflective of the fact we use our 5 to set ball screens at the top of the 3 pt line. We also are not great at putting a man on the block and making it a point of getting the ball to that guy who is sitting on the block and demanding the ball.

OR it could be that our 2 PG's that are used the majority of the time either dribble around with no purpose, dribble with their heads down, or chuck shots up for no reason whatsoever...

Also, I can't remember the last time we had a guard who was good at getting the ball in the post as Ruff wasn't great at that, just slightly above average.

          Maybe JC?

I can already tell that DSE is wave lengths above the others in that aspect and Will would enjoy the both of them receiving more time together.

We also did absolutely NOTHING to get the ball into the high post against a zone. That zone could have easily been picked apart by WE, SS, or heck even AW coming to the high post and either shooting the 15 footer, going to the basket, dropping the ball down to the post (hi-lo), or kicking the ball out for an open shot after the defense collapses. Sometimes we don't do the most elementary things and it is becoming maddening, it really is. Will Egolf was made to beat a zone. We don't even act like the high post is an option, or that he's capable of playing there.

We need our guards to feed him the ball! DSE was one of the few guards to pass the ball into the post last night.

WE also has a nice shot. Why are we not setting him up for mid-range jumpers? SS even has that game! At worst two things happen. The other teams big has to come outside to guard them and opens up the inside for one of our other guys to rebound a miss or better yet get the ball and head to the rim. I have to think that WE needs to still work into shape a bit more and the coaches are taking it easy now waiting for conference play.

If we have guards not great at putting a pass to a player on the block, do you really think we have anyone who would be able to make a pass from the key to the middle of the lane?

Also, the hi/low requires someone to post up strong in the lane, demand the ball, then make an offensive move and score. Other then Egolf I dont think we have anyone who can post up and has any post moves and can score.

Singh is about the only one I can think of who can make a top of key pass to a big and he rarely plays with another big. I suppose Warren can make that pass but if he gets a ball at the top of the key Id prefer him to shoot or make a one on one move.

The point is to get the ball to the high post and go from there. If Warren gets it there, I don't see too many people stopping him without fouling him. If Egolf gets it there, I think he shoots 15 footers all day until someone stops him. Singh is a good enough passer that if he doesn't shoot the ball there, I have confidence that he can find the open guy on the perimeter. The fact of the matter is that its something we more or less ignored yesterday, and I am not sure why.

I am very certain why and the real point here is, who can we put in there that can get Will and Taylor the ball?

                      I know the answer...

That being said, on my OP, Will needs more minutes.

Other then 2006 I have not seen us try anything resembling a high/low game. But I completely agree with playing a high/low Id like either Warren to Egolf or Roberts or Egolf to Warren. Regardless I really want to see more of Warren and letting him make decision with the ball.

Agree 100%. Some of my friends and I were talking last night, and Warren making things happen was a recurring theme. I think he will start to do that more, as he did down the stretch yesterday.

He will as long as coach doesn't continue to break his rhythm and hot streaks by subbing him out
