  • I understand that we're smaller than WSU, and Wichita and Omaha, but both Carver and the Qwest Center are about the same distance from campus and the schools are roughly the same size.

All three teams have played similar competition at home this season, and both CU and WSU fans are filling over 90% of their arena every game. Bradley is averaging just under 80% for the year. My point is I'm giving repect to both CU and WSU for being where I hope the BU fans can be someday.

The sign of the best fanbases is that they pack the place whether you're playing North Carolina or North Carolina Central.

Creighton's home schedule: Florida A&M, Arkansas-Little Rock, Nebraska

Wichita's home schedule: Farleigh Dickenson, Arkansas-Monticello, Alcorn St., Texas Southern, USC-Upstate

Bradley's Home Schedule: Idaho St, Presbyterian, Wofford
People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

    • I think it's the schools on the list above that are always hovering around 50% capacity despite having enormous student populations right next to their beautiful on-campus arenas that should be worrying.

        • What else is there to do in Omaha? Can't believe anyone stays home to watch the KC Chiefs on TV vs Creighton BB...Of course, winning a lot (up till this year so far) helps sell tix to casual fans.

I'm guessing their newer arena has private boxes which fill in and probably count for X number of seats sold/filled whether there is anyone in the box or not. Playing NU at home guarantees a sell out. BU's avg fan number this year would jump if we had played U of I at home in our preseason!

I'll guess WSU has several thousands of students at their home games vs BU's 250-500 boosting their attendance, and, probably have many more local alumni to buy tix than BU does in the Peoria area.

Do BU band members and cheerleaders/dance team count as fans? They would add another 75 people to BU's student attendance total. Every little bit adds up from a small school. If BU were to offer a meal/drink deal to students - ie BU student bb ticket stub could be redeemed for free food and/or drinks - either at Carver or in sponsorship with local restaurants/bars, they would sell more student tix and get more student butts in the seats..Free food/drink is a magnet for college students IMHO

              • Glad UNI was able to finally play their 2nd home game of the year last night! Very good crowd for UNI's game last night all things considered. They were reporting only a couple hundred tickets remained as it was closing in on tip off. We got 10 inches of snow in the Cedar Valley, and there were alot of ticket holders/prospective ticket holders from the Cedar Rapids/Des Moines area that couldn't make it due to the weather conditions. Students showed up in great numbers, and that 6400+ number is actual tickets/seats used, not tickets sold (to my understanding). Saturday vs. Siena should be another solid turnout.

Here are some pics from yesterday/last night....today is MUCH worse:

Fans stay home to watch the Bears, why not KC? I know if the Cards are playing at the same time as ASU, I'd be at Wells Fargo Arena if I could get a ticket.

                    • I had a discussion with this guy and we agreed it is much better to attend a sporting event then watch another one on the tube any day regardless of sport. I'm not a 49ners fan but if I had tickets to their game during a televised BU game I'd chose the 49ners game. Going to a BU game live over any other sporting event on TV except probably the Superbowl would be a no brainer for me.

                      • I've heard that the Super Bowl in person is not nearly as good as it is on TV. No real "game" atmosphere. Many of the tickets are alloted to corporate sponsors.

ONCE again the numbers lie and serve NO purpose except to pad the egos of those in charge. 9,000 at the West Carolina game....yeah right. There weren't 9k if you counted 1/2 of those in attendace twice. Try 6500 maybe 7k.

I realize revenue gained is MORE importaint then the actual basketball atmosphere to some but, I STILL ASK, what possible purpose is served by giving out these mis-leading/decieving numbers? And that goes for ALL schools...not just BU.

I guess, in the end it doesn't matter. Wether its a fake 9000k sitting on their hands half asleep or the ACTUAL 6500 its STILL a dieing atmosphere that SOMEHOW SOMEONE in charge needs to get a grasp of.

BTW Shaunguth....this rant isn't directed at you...i.e., I'm not shooting the mesenger.....just the message.

                          • The atmosphere has always been the same unless they are winning and the students head to the game. The only way to upgrade the atmosphere would be to have the students where the big time BU contributors sit like at Duke but as Chico would say,"that will only happen over their dead bodies."

I have heard the same thing in a lot of college arenas where the contributors get the choice seats and there are no box seats for them (i.e. The Dean dome in NC). Chico did say he wished that the band could play during time outs instead of the PR announcements. Maybe that would help.

Carver is good and bad...the good is few places the size of BU get a facility that nice. (yes I realize its getting outdated but its still a decent place) but the bad is its quite sterile AND caters to the $$...which I realize is the way it probably always will be.

I wish I had the answers as to how to liven the place up.....G@D knows I do MY part ask Chico, he has to leave for Az to regain his hearing.

I'm just tired of the lack of noise and lack participation from so many BU "fans'...

It's been like this since it opened up. That's always been my beef with the place. The students get screwed with bad seats and are so spread out that there's no coordination.
