  • First time without a fall signee for Les?

Can someone verify this, but I can't remember not having an early signee in the Jim Les era. Seems like we always have at least one kid commit early. With Wilkins out, and Oglesby gone, it doesn't appear we are close on anyone. Unless someone visits this weekend, I doubt we sign anyone during the early signing period. Big disappointment that we have hardly even had kids in for official visits.

I'm hoping for quality! With JP and JE RS we are not pressed to fill in those spots that quickly. Those RS give our staff the ability to be a bit more patient. Our new facilities will give the staff some new marketing which can help attract some better players.

Talent has never been the problem at BU, so I don't know why everyone keeps saying 'well now that we have the facilities we'll get better players'. What has been wrong with the players we've had?

We have every so often found a true gem but I have to disagree about having real NBA talent level year in and year out to be a consistent top team. We have recruited great guys but it seems they either were great athletes that took a bit more to mold into ball players or ball players that were not tall enough or athletic enough to get us there.

From the top teams we are usually a few inches shorter and a 1/2 a step slower. We are going in the right direction and I believe the facility will give JL the marketing punch in order for him to close on those players that can help the program make some huge strides.

What Valley team produces NBA talent year-in and year-out? Heck, a majority of BCS teams don't even produce NBA talent year-in and year-out.

OK, guys that will be looked at for the draft and yes the consistent programs usually have at least 1 guy that is talked about going to the next level if not 2. Besides POB and Granger who was the last player we have had that was NBA ready. Parker! Well POB is debatable and Parker went over seas. We have not had consistent top notch talent IMHO to sustain consistency. Those are the steps I believe the program is heading and the new facility will only speed that process up.

BTW...I like who we have recruited. They have great ambassadors for the University but if we want to win we will need to recruit better. I do not know how this could be argued????

I like the kids we have as well but there must be a reason we have finished no higher than 4th for more years than I want to count? I would hope the new facilities would land us a kid or two we may not have without them. I still have faith that this years team will surprise.............

Not too much worry over here. I think it is that we are just waiting on the best players, sure we could sign a couple players early, but with the young core group that we have it really makes no sense to go out and sign someone just to say "hey here he is" whomever it may be. Our young talent may scare some people off or at least make them think a little more about it. I'm sure that the staff is onto some top notch kids that are also considering offers from other programs. We just have to do our part and go out there 10,000+ and show them what kind of program that they will be with for 4 years. I'm still holding hope we get that 5 star recruit, but to do that you have to be a winner. I guess we'll see how that goes starting Friday! GO BU!

With the redshirts, I'm not worried at all. With one more signing we will effectively have a 3-person freshman class. The perfect size.

Just curious....how many Valley teams DID NOT get an LOI thus far this signing period?

UNI got 3 (Buss, McDermott, Rank)
                    Wichita got Orupke
                    Indiana State signed a couple
                    Drake signed 3
ISU signed (or actually re-signed) Kenyon Smith - still witing on Threloff
                    CU signed only 1
and it appears Evansville, Missouri State, SIU, and BU didn't get a LOI (someone let me know if I missed anyone).

Thus, if almost HALF the Valley didn't get a LOI, then is this so unusual?
Plus, the signing period is far from over....so let's see what happens..

I know it's early, but is it possible that he redshirted Prosser for that reason? No prospects on the horizon to fill in the gaps? at least currently.

Prosser is not only a freshman, but he also has a very late birthday....and just turned 18....
He has 3 experienced guys ahead of him in the playing rotation, two who are in their 3rd year at BU (AT, WE) and one in his 6th year.
Doesn't take a genius to see his playing time will be sparse...
Not many big men step in and play right away in the Valley as 18 year olds....
In the end, this may be a great decision down the road... and a few of the other Valley teams might not like the end result...

Mo State signed 2 yesterday. (Copeland and Scheer)

I don't think Evansville has any to give. (no SR on schollie)

That leaves BU and SIU without any signings.

I think they would ideally get 2 more quality recruits next year, and redshirt the new recruits so we are often playing with 5th year starters..

While I agree redshirting big guys are usually to their benefit, why did some/many predict Prosser as the FOY if "it doesn't take a genious to see his playing time being sparse"?
