[QUOTE=dogsrus;144982]Originally posted by tornado View Postif JW cannot play basketball = then he is no longer eligible for a juco scholarship = then he cannot stay at SICC = then he isn't assured of getting his Assoc. Degree in time
Since when does getting your assoc. degree depend on a baskeball scholly? Very few people who recived degrees had any type of scholorship at all.
he'd have to either pay his own way at SICC or try to transfer elsewhere and hope for the good graces again of the NJCAA
that the credits he earns at SICC will transfer to the next place...
You really think the kid is looking forward to that??
...so which do you suggest he do?? Either way..."he isn't assured of getting his Assoc. Degree in time"
..which is what I think someone has already said...

I simply think he is doing what he can - go get 'em John and I wish you and your advocates success!
This here makes me real confused. Are you telling me that this kid and his parents can't figure out a way to pay for one YEAR of Junior College?

Is DR correct?
The way I count it, Bradley has 3 seniors who are on scholarship and who will be gone next year (Sam Singh, Dodie Dunson, Chris Roberts). So I count 3 BU scholarships to give for 2010.
Here is shaunguth's scholarship grid, and if JW doesn't sign, then it appears to confirm that BU will have 3 open scholarships for next year.-
We better not be considering a Roberts redshirt, although I think a more accurate guess would be DR might be counting Harris for next year (Harris was supposed to play next year, but I think we found out his 2 year missions trip began this year instead of last)

can you NOT see how NJCAA's action places the family in a VERY difficult situation and dilemma?
WHY would he stay in Iowa, away from his family, away from where he might get a tuition discount for living within the district, and so why would he stay there??
...if he LIVES IN a district with junior colleges that his kid can possibly go to for less, just like my kids can go to ICC for reduced tuition in-district,
then give me some good reason why he'd stay at SICC??
Thus, like I clearly stated in my post...he'd be possibly inclined to transfer...and NJCAA reviews every transfer to see if the kid's credits transfer...
so he'd be, again, at the mercy of NJCAA....
Here's the statement simply..
If JW cannot play basketball for SICC then he loses his scholarship and has little reason to stay at SICC over any other junior college.
So wouldn't you transfer your kid home where he can live without paying room & board (thousands of $$) and paying out of state tuition?

The reason he would is so he can finish out there and play D-I ball next Fall.
There is zero guarantee that those courses would all transfer anywhere, let alone say for example ICC.
IF he takes that chance, he is taking the chance that they don't and he has another 1/2 year or so to go and loses another semester of D-I eligibility...
Would you want to take that chance if you were in that situation when you could very easily stay and finish out the next semester and 1/4 at your current school all while being able to practice with a team, where if he did in fact transfer to ICC, he wouldn't get the luxury of such?

the NJCAA ruling forces the family to pay the Iowa non-resident tuition and room and board -
instead of getting a scholarship... ..thus..
there are CLEAR and defined damages....
have you ever tried to pursue a lawsuit in which you can prove no damages??
I betcha you'd lose such a lawsuit..so can you NOT see my point?

Part of me would be glad to see where this law suit will lead to. There is something quite fishy here and with some due diligence from his lawyer and using the discovery process I have a feeling they will have a pretty good case. The problem is that lawyers cost money guys unless this is being done pro bono. If I was JW's dad I'd be going after the NJCAA with full vengeance."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
