Actually Central Communications Department (Work Control/Campus Police/Switchboard) has authority to send forewarn texts 24/7 when given the ok by a Campus Police Officer. I'm not sure of the delay to get this text out but I know a couple other calls were going on at the same time. I man the shack part time and had the pleasure of sending 1 tornado text last December.

The campus wide audio system is called Fireworks. It monitors the fire alarm system and we also have the ability to send campus wide audio messages or building/floor specific messages. This was also used during the tornado warning last December.

Those who have permission to send forewarn messages are unfortunately few and far between, so getting a message out at night is difficult... something that really needs to be looked at.

Agreed with that statement, however, according to a couple BU officials/officers who will remain nameless, all statements sent out over BU forewarn save weather and tests are to be run through JoJo personally...

It used to be that way before they installed the system with us. It is a big news event when one of the pages goes out, so all the facts of the event have to be bonafide. Usually the ok comes from a person of authority (Officer, PD Chief, PIO). This is the first time it's been used for a crime situation, i'm sure some kinks will be worked out.
