interesting...half the minutes were bench minutes, yet the bench scored only 23 of their 82 points....our bench accounted for half our points...
    maybe we're a deeper team...

Or maybe their starters are better?

I still say we should throw a lot of zone at them...

Another game they shot below 30% from 3 at home...

Certainly one game doesn't make a season, but it would be quite the tone setter to go on the road and knock off the MWC's top team. I say we throw the kitchen sink at 'em!

Article from Provo, UT on BYU and Friday's game: http://www.heraldextra.com/sports/co...92a7824c3.html

"BYU basketball coach Dave Rose said after Tuesday's second and final exhibition game that he has eight to nine players who could start."

"The season starts officially Friday as a mature, older team like Bradley -- usually it's the Cougars who get that label -- arrives in Provo."

The only way we slow up the game is if we can hit our own 3. I'd have to say we will not be playing zone against these guys. My guess is that we will press them a bit and look to create some easy points from steals.

                Press?

That would be new....have you ever seen a JL team press? I certainly haven't...(btw, token 1-on-1 man doesn't count)

And yeah, we don't play much zone either, but switching up defenses throughout the game would be smart.

Matter of fact we did throw in a press early on last year but our guys were lost!

I recall us trying a 1-2-1-1 in JL's first year. It was quickly scrapped when Danny Granger kept picking up fouls at half court.

Exited about the new season, Does anyone know with Warren back if we'll actually start 3 guards?

I think BU pressed a little bit more early on in JL tenure when he had a 6'11" center who was pretty decent defensively in the middle.

Wasn't it a half court trapping defense that went back to MTM or some zone past half court?

With the graduation of Zach, haven't had a big defensive stopper in the middle of the back court which lets the rest of the players gamble and press up front.

It wouldn't surprise me if BU mixes up lots of different defensive looks to prevent BYU from getting into a set flow on offense....Depends on the defensive ability of WE/AT in the open court. I'd like to see more of the trapping half court pressing if WE/AT can handle back court defense one on one....or two on one with their footwork/height/length

I think we have pretty much always started at least 3 guards... As long as you consider Roberts a guard, and as long as he's healthy Friday, seems like we'll be starting a PG (Maniscalco or McCain), Warren, and Roberts... Along with probably Taylor Brown and Will Egolf.

If so, 2 of them better be Warren and Roberts

Oh, and if I had to choose a starting lineup for Friday, it would be this:

                                Roberts
                                Brown
                                Egolf
                                Warren
                                Maniscalco

McCain plays better D, but Maniscalco has a knack for coming up big on the road.

Then again, it doesn't so much matter who starts as it does with who finishes...and I'd like to finish w/ Roberts or Warren at the line plenty to end it
