  • Jim Les radio show

Does anyone know if the Jim Les radio show is on WMBD today?
He appeared last Monday on the Greg & Dan show, but there is no mention of the Jim Les Show on the WMBD website, other than an audio archive of that segment from last week. They need to do a bit better promoting it, as I am sure a lot of our posters would like to listen.
Last year it was on from 8:30 to 9:00 am on Mondays.

If anyone does listen today, post a report of what was said.

Yes, it was today (and last Monday) at 8:30. I still find it funny that the ad during the game said they take callers..

Interesting comments on redshirting (something the program can now emphasize)

      ph,

You seem to be one of the few here that heard the broadcast. Care to elaborate?

JL was mentioning that BYU is somewhat unique haing older players (SS's age is "typical" at BYU)as most had their 2 year missions trip, and then started mentioning that our program is now stable enough that redshirting is now more of a priority.

(my observation: Which is a contrast to a few years ago when it was never considered. I'd say this is a strong indicator that JL wants redshirt(s) this year)

JL also talked about DSE, his greatest compliment is DSE is a "gamer" solid in practice, but even better in a game.

JL also mentioned that our centers WE, SS and AT are there for defense, rebounding and being a strong inside presence, but not offense..

Nothing else on the show stuck out to me.

          Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

This is disheartening. We need to have scoring threats outside and in.

Typical former guard coach who has no clue what kind of talent he has inside.

IF this is really truly how he feels and dictates how we play all year, expect close to that 6th place finish.

Most great coaches aren't this nearsighted, and just look at most of the Valley champs of late and overall. They all had a great inside out game that kept teams off balance.

Even BU's sweet 16 team had a good balance of Ruffin, Franklin, and Bennett while also having O'Bryant and then Sommerville and Wright who could do both.

WOW....thats all the more I can say!

I think we will see more offense out of the forwards this year than we have since the 2006 team (Cellus and POB). Will and Taylor are both capable of scoring in double figures some nights, and I expect an average close to 20ppg between them.

I agree. I thought nothing helps an outside game like a strong inside game..

Not hearing myself the context in which this statement was made, if it was put the way Ph has outlined I wouldn't be surprised to see some backpedaling from that position by JL at some point.

would JL be going out of his way to mess with BYU?
We know we have been working on new options on O and D. Listening, I do not think I ever heard "Kaboom". Could we be holding something back?

Not sure if BYU gets film or if they would have had a scout there, but in the exhibition game he was definitely holding back - there were multiple substitutions & at times what I would refer to as "line changes". There was not one backdoor cut that I saw & there was never what I would call any true flow on the BU side. It was pretty vanilla. Now, do I think he would be holding something back from BYU in a local radio show, I'd say it's highly doubtful.

It's aparantly illegal to send a scout, just /TV or film trades. I guess they could catch the radio call?

                          Not having heard the broadcast....

I would tend to believe that perhaps JL was meaning that he does not expect the scoring load to come from the interior. When I look at our team only AT is truly only a low post player, the other "bigs" can also move outside and hit from the 15' range! JMO
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

Funny...most of us don't even listen to the morning show, why would BYU waste their time?!

And no, but maybe that should be our first regular season pick-em T....first dunk of the year and tie breaker at time of the game it happens?

That would make for a difficult one

I think we're making too much out of this. Heck, it took half a season before we realized that POB was what he was...there was talk of possibly redshirting the kid the summer before his freshman year. Let's all just simmer down and let this thing take shape. No team is a finished product in the 2nd week of November.
