Less than 24 hours earlier, Iowa State beat UNC-Pembroke 106-54. Doesn't mean anything, just thought Bradley fans might be interested.

FC- It's UNI defense that was better than ISU's! That's the difference! Ha! Ia State looked good I guess. They are going to be tough this year.

The UNI game was a hard one to watch. In the first half, the refs completely took any flow out of the game. UNI finished with 25 fouls (very unusual for a UNI team, let alone in an exhibition) and had to have had 15 of those in the 1st half. UNC-P also had double digit fouls in the 1st. At one time, O'Rear got called for a foul, by literally extending his hand to touch the jersey of the opponent. If any pressure was applied, it had to have been barely, and only for a second. Really interesting calls. Anyway, no flow to the first half, lots of players getting double digit minutes (O'Rear had only 6 and Koch/Eglseder had only 12 I think). Rodenberg, Jake Koch, and Pehl played the majority of the post minutes.

UNI's defense really looks better this year. I think they can go the the guards a little deeper than last year. Where Travis Brown graduated, I think Marc Sonnen and Anthony James will step in with more athleticism and pressure defensively as TB. Not sure on the offensive consistency that Brown could provide, but both are showing improvement. Jake Koch is really making some nice strides as it looks early on like Coach Jake will go with a 5 post player rotation. J.Koch could get some good time. He's similar to Jay Tunnell in his game (more outside/inside). He is relatively strong around the basket, but has to get stronger...just like Tunnell did over his career. Outside shooting wise, he has a good shot, similar to Tunnell. He needs another year to develop to get his game up to where Jay's was, but I hated seeing JT play against UNI, so I'm sure others will feel the same in a few years when they have to play JKoch consistently.

Should be a fun year. Usually lots of optimism over the country after exhibition games. We'll see how these teams put it together next weekend.

I hope so, excluding one game of course!

Their SOS should be good, playing in their conference plus games against Bradley, UNI, Cal, Iowa, and Duke. I'm also very much looking forward to seeing the results of their game against Idaho State next Friday, just two day before the Bengals come to Peoria for our home opener.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Don't forget St Louis, Drake, North Dakota State and either Northwestern or Notre Dame. Really solid slate of games this year in the non-conference, but I have never seen an ISU team this deep. We have increased our athleticism immensely. I am curious to see how this year goes.
