  • Tyler Hansbrough

The big debut of Tyler Hansbrough went fairly smooth. Played 14 minutes, scored 13 points and 5 boards, however he also committed 3 fouls. Not to shabby for his first NBA minutes when a great deal of people thought he would fail.

I'm not sure who "a lot of people" are, but I always thought of him as a rotation-guy. He can be Andres Nocioni with a little more athleticism.

I'm with you! I always thought he would do well in the NBA because he plays a physical game and with a ton of heart and no quit attitude. He's willing to do whatever it takes to win and just about every team in the NBA would love to have him.

then you aren't looking and listening very hard...because indeed a very LARGE "lot of people" said exactly that---
many, many people have posted just about everywhere on message boards, blogs, and a large majority of the talking heads who comment on TV or on the web have said he will not be successful in the NBA...some have even gone much further to trash the kid starting up entire web sites dedicated to attacks and injsults on him...so I applaud the kid for his success.

I like him, but I think there's just a backlash from some people in the media over-hyping him. He's going to have a long, solid career, but he'll never be an all-star. Like you said, every team needs a guy or two like him in the supporting cast.

What constitutes "large?" How many people are saying it? Are you sure they're not just saying that he won't be a star in the NBA?

Edit: I'm asking sincerely, not being sarcastic.

I have read probably 500 people's opinions of Hansbrough and at least 75-80% don't like him and think he will not be successful..
that doesn't mean I know what everyone thinks but he's probably the most trashed college kid since JJ Redick.

One game hardly makes a career. I think he'll be decent NBA bench player.

Fair enough. People who think he'll completely wash-out are simply basketball ignorant. That said, he's making millions and millions of dollars to play a game, so I don't feel sorry for him.

another guy who got dissed pretty widely by fans and press alike was Joakim Noah...who had 21 pts/16 rebs last night, and
is averaging on the season...nearly 12 ppg/11 reb

                      Tyler Hansbrough

I was at the game (maybe my first post-brawl Pacers game?). I thought he looked fairly good for his first game. I wouldn't say he looked overly comfortable, but he settled down a little in the second half and got a jumper or two to drop in addition to free throws and layups. The home crowd was definitely cheering for him, though--big applause to see him during warmups and each time he came in or out of the game.

On another note, I got to shake hands with and congratulate Tamika Catchings and Ebony Hoffman (Indiana Fever) during the game on their WNBA finals performances. They were sitting pretty close to us. Don't know if many of you follow the WNBA, but Tamika is a fun basketball player to watch, period.

Strage seeing Hansbrough on TV in a cell phone advertisement wearing UNC clothing in a campus setting with other college kids...

No one wants to say it but the reason Hansbrough gets trashed and doubted is simply the color of his skin. Say what you want but that's why. And it's wrong.

T........I'm with you. I think it might even be more than 80% of those in the media think Hansbrough will fail and they continue to doubt him.

I hope he shuts them all up.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

There's more to it then just the color of his skin but it is a part of it. You do not see Kevin Love getting trashed like him! It has to do with the emotion he exhibits on the floor. I like that he shows it. The guy is human but if you hate NC this guy becomes an easy target. I have to say that the majority of the haters are just jealous. I'd take a guy like him any day regardless of the color of their skin!

Is it really the emotion he displays? I always thought it was because he possibly wasn't tall or big enough to play the way he played in college vs. the NBA. That is, the NBA players would be just as big or strong enough to push him around too.
