in the end, here's the good in all this...no matter what the "powers that be" are trying to do to ruin JW's career,
if he can just get that Assoc. Degree, he can be at BU and play basketball in the 6th game of the 2010-2011 season,
then have a minimum of 3 years of eligibility remaining.
I don't know the exact time line for all this so please bear with me....what I would like to know is what happened from the time JW first got excepted into school, found a place to live, signed up for classes, started to get in shape for basketball, attended classes, started basketball practice, and finally got to the day of the FIRST GAME only to find out that he was not eligible to play this season??? Why did it take months for somebody to decide that he couldn't play this year? Did I miss something?
Anyway....hit the books John and sign the LOI next week. Can't wait to see you play at BU!

This is OUTRAGEOUS!!! How does this happen that the NJCAA comes in right in the nick of time to prevent John from playing? He's been taking classes there for almost a year, with the intent to play basketball this year. How convenient that he is enrolled there for 11 months, then the NJCAA comes in days before his first game and declares him ineligible? This is absolutely rediculous. John has been working hard for 11 months to get to play on this team, and then is denied at the last minute. Talk about crushing someones hopes. All we can hope for is that John signs his letter of intent, gets his associates, and gets 3 years at BU.

Well said....I'm stoopified myself. If I were John and his family I would be livid at SOMEONE. I guess maybe we have to take basketball out of the equation when looking at this and look at it purely from an educational standpoint.
Nobody is denying his "right" to get an education.....but OTOH he could have stayed closer to home and got the same degree vs traveling to Iowa has someone made a timely decision.
It stinks.....not a big conspiracy person but it makes you wonder. Is someone calling in a favor or putting some pressure on somebody to derail this kids coming to BU...probably not but jeesh.
Back to CT's point.....how in the world did it take THIS flippin long to declare him ineligible. My goodness.
Hopefully the PJStars fine sports reporters can due some serious investigating into this mess. The kid is NOT a Pro. He simply wants to get an education and get some help paying for it.
What advantage did he gain by playing a few games in a Pro league (if thats what it was) ?
THe NJCAA is wrong plain and simple. I can understand and accept the 5 games the NCAA gave him and to me THAT should set the prescedence in this case. How can some Juco morons suspend him from...I'm sorry...silly arse Juco ball when the NCAA will eventually allow him to play Big time Div 1 College hoops. Get real NCJAA......

Now I am not the smartest fish in the sea But NOT For ONE MINUTE do I believe that everyone involved in trying to help this kid get all his ducks in order and tickets punched, so he could play this year in Iowa, get his degree, then come to BU next year, didn't seached and believed this matter or posibility of, by the NJCAA was taken care of before he enrolled there Something has Happen to change this around to where we are today I'm on record here as saying Dog, it is a God D--- CONSPIRACY Things like this just don't happen the way this has People with-in the NCAA and the NCJAA know where this is coming from and WHY

I pray that REALLY isn't the case but the timing REALLY makes a person wonder....before I jump TOO far to any conclusions though I hope someone with the power and/or ability to gets to the bottom of this story, does.

But 5 games and 3 years of eligibility is nothing. This NJCAA ruling is unbelievable. Who are they crappin'? No one who can get paid to play basketball is wasting their time toiling in high school gyms playing JUCO basketball.

Quite bringing logic and common sense into this issue....it doesn't fit in with the rest of this story.
I absolutely do not agree with the NJCAA ruling, but have to believe this is probably the best scenario for getting Wilkins to still come play at Bradley. Otherwise, he probably would've ended up on some list of top juco players in the country and had even more schools recruiting him and more pressure to change his mind. I just feel terrible for him and his family for being put through all this nonsense. Hopefully, he will get through these trying times and be ready to play for BU one year from now.

I present the proof that NJCAA as well as NCAA are crooked..
This Ohio State recruit, Nikola Kechman, spent a year at junior college (Eastern Arizona) even though he had played professionally in Europe, and when he got to Ohio State, he had to sit out 12 games for his professional involvement..
And yes -- the kid's professional connections were so blatant that they even penalized a kid going to Ohio State!
BUT-- what was his penalty at Eastern Arizona?? Nothing of course..
Ohio State sophomore forward Nikola Kecman will sit out the first 12 games of the 2008-09 season in an agreement reached jointly by the NCAA and the university, the school announced Monday.
The NCAA might change this rule so kids aren't docked games, since they know this really doesn't constitute being a pro.
But you can guarantee they'll still enforce it against mid-majors...
as for the NCAA...remember a kid named Derrick Caracter??
He was proven to have accepted over $2100 in cash and extra benefits from a "friend" who paid the kid's way to Louisville...and his school - Louisville suspended the kid for 3 games, but what was his NCAA penalty for accepting payment & extra benefits, and therefore being a professional?
Well...he never did get any penalty at all from NCAA..none...never!
Playing ball, practicing, traveling, etc. makes it very hard to do well in the classroom. He can now focus on finishing his degree asap and move on to BU next fall. I'm not saying I agree with the NJCAA, but I am trying to look at the positive and I hope John does too.
I've never been a conspiracy type, but this really smells of one if ever one did. But, it may backfire because he won't be playing in front on BCS scouts looking to steal him. This could work to BU's advantage.
John, if you read these things, I wish you well and welcome you to BU as a player/athlete and member of a great family here at Bradley. Sign your letter next week, hold your head up high, study hard the rest of this school year and graduate with flying colors, and get ready to show everyone how great of a player you are when you put on the BU uniform. Putting on the uniform will also show that you are a person of high character by sticking with BU through these hard times. Best of Luck, and I am sorry that our education system let you down. You won't be let down once you get at BU as we are all supportive of you. You will love being a Bradley Brave and will have a great career.
