Appeal Denied - Wilkins will not play this season

The reason he went the JUCO route is so he could keep playing ball. He could have just came to BU and sat out for a year! I'm puzzled by this completely and if I was his dad I'd be making a few phone calls. If money is not an issue could he transfer to BU after this semester and still be eligible to play next year? The NCAA does allow non-qualified players to go to their chosen school but not play for a year.

There's no indication that he won't sign his LOI, so hopefully a week from now, a new chapter on John's career will have begun.

First and foremost---Lets get the signed LOI. Then, if his credits transfer and he can stay on-stream to get his Associates, transfer to ICC so he is near BU and he can work-out and play with alums, etc in pick-up games until this season is over. I would aviod any transfer to Calif. unless it was AFTER an LOI was signed and it violated no NCAA rules. Also, we have to be very careful who pays for all of this because the bad guys will be watching closely.

Well, here's what I do if I am BU -

1. Get his LOI next week.
2. Make sure he is on track for his Associates degree.
2. Get him to Yuba at semester break (only if the required credits for an associates degree transfer).

Priority 1 for BU has to be getting the LOI though, otherwise we're wasting our time.

Bradleybrave, I think that Wilkins should get his degree from Southeastern Iowa rather than go to Yuba. I say this as the powers that be are hammering this kid with every chance they get. Why give them another opportunity to hammer this kid? I think that BU should keep things simple and get their lawyers ready after Wilkins signs his LOI

Ruff, I believe, was a non-qualifier (due to ACT not certifying) and had to complete 1 year at BU befoe being able to play. I think Ruff was then responsible for paying for tuition, and when Ruff played, he had to always remain on track to graduate in 4 total years of school and get special NCAA permission to play his 5th year. (which I think is more restrictive than a typical qualifier)

SFP, I could be wrong but I don't think he went to a JC just to play ball. He was deemed a non qualifier because some grades in his old country didn't pass the NCAA clearinghouse. Hence the reason for JC.

Once he gets his Associates Degree that becomes a non issue with the Clearinghouse. He would be good to go. What scares me is the NJCAA has declared him ineligable to play all season but the NCAA just gave him a 5 game suspension. That just doesn't make sense to me . Hope he signs next week and this whole mess just goes away. Will we hear more bad news from the NCAA when they hear he isn't going to a BCS school?? Good luck JW can't wait to see you in Carver in a BU uniform.

I'd feel much better if he were to go to ICC. Why not keep him close to home? It's pitiful the way he has been penalized twice and he hasn't even stepped on the court. If this were Duke, he would be in uniform and practicing right now. The NCAA is a joke! Let's just get him signed next week and worry about the rest later. Can he practice with the team still? If not, let him load up on classes and get graduated so we can enjoy a full 3 years on the Hilltop. Good luck John! You will be welcome with open arms in Peoria.

HE CAN NOT be admitted to BU since the credits he had in Belgium cannot qualify as a high school degree..
thus he is not and cannot get into Bradley unless he transfers in from juco with an Associates Degree.

now the 180 degree opposite is true per NJCAA (a completely different and separate organization from NCAA)..he does have the ability to be admitted academically and is on track to get his degree, but he is NOT athletically qualified due to professionalism.

Listen, this whole thing is frustrating for us, but can you imagine how bad it is for JW? I hope he can at least practice with that team to keep sharp.

Plus, this way he can hardcore work on academics so that there will be no issues with getting his Associates in time. Once the LOI is in, this will all go away.

Though I am bummed I don't get to roadtrip on Friday!
