  • Appeal Denied - Wilkins will not play this season

he is almost out of options...
-stay at juco get degree and play next year (he is cleared with 5-game penalty for play in NCAA)
    -go pro
    -NAIA, Canadian school, or other..
-poss. play in California - not governed by NJCAA

numerous other Euros...a whole freakin' ton of them, have gotten cleared and played juco ball..
practically the entire roster of Decatur Christian a couple years ago had the same situation, and half of them went to juco and played right away...some even then having to sit a few game went they advanced to D-I...so this is virtually unprecedented!!

NJCAA has NEVER levied a penalty like this!!
There is really something fishy going on..

BUT someone needs to have JL check out the possibility of going the California juco route, since they are NOT governed by NJCAA!

If he goes West for a year or two... I doubt he'd come back... winter weather in the Midwest is enough to keep many away.

if he is on track to get his Associates Degree, then no matter where he is he is allowed to sigh a LOI and it is binding...then he cannot go elsewhere.

If Wilkins gets his Associates, but does not play in junior college, how many years of eligibility would he have when he gets to BU? The link says three years, but if he does not play juco ball then why not four?

You only get five years total from once you enrolled (barring something like Sam Singh). He's on his second year currently since he enrolled for the spring semester of the 2008-09 school year at Southeastern Iowa Community College.

Taylor Brown's five year clock started a couple of years ago when he attended junior college and never played in a game.

I agree with everyone on the two threads about this, that it sounds too punitive. What I think the simple solution is: sign with Bradley next week, stay where he is at, sign on as a team manager and play some basketball with his new friends, take the courses he needs, and come to Bradley next summer (it's only 7 months) and sit out 5 games and then get on with the rest of his career.

here's a bizarre bit on the guy in the NCAA that makes these amateur vs professionalism decisions...
...the "director of amateurism certification within the Eligibility Center"
he is suddenly kaput and gone from the NCAA--right in the midst of him resisting the Renardo Sydney clearance...
this story seems to hint at a little intrigue...

it sounds like certain big wigs that DO want players like Renardo Sydney to play for a BCS school, kinda have ultimate control over NCAA-
while schools like Bradley and other mid-majors get pooped on all the time!
                        FWIW--

Well, here's what I do if I am BU -

                          1. Get his LOI next week.
                          2. Make sure he is on track for his Associates degree.
                          2. Get him to Yuba at semester break (only if the required credits for an associates degree transfer).

Priority 1 for BU has to be getting the LOI though, otherwise we're wasting our time.
                          Onward and Upward!

Wouldn't he have to sit out from transfering anyway? They might not be the same organization, but I assume you can't just transfer whenever you want. Also it may screw up his graduating if classes don't transfer and he looses this whole semester.(I am not sure how far into the semester they are.

Honestly, if BU gets the LOI, I make sure the credits transfer and I get him to ICC so he can be close to the program.
