  • John Wilkins- for anyone planning a trip to see him play

I just heard that the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) has not yet cleared John Wilkins to play this season. Southeastern Iowa is appealing this case, and they expect a ruling on his eligibility this week.

So, if anyone is thinking about going to Burlington, Iowa to watch a game, be aware that John's eligibility has not yet been determined, and he can't play until cleared by the NJCAA. PM me if you have any questions.
I will try to find out more when it's available.

    John Wilkins

I don't wish anything bad at all for JW but---If he cannot play this year but stays in the JC so as to become eligible for Divn. I, Does that help BU since other people would not be able to see him play and he might not attract as much attention? In a selfish way, is this a good break for us?

The Blackhawks will be without freshman John Wilkins indefinitely while they await a ruling from the NJCAA on Wilkins' eligibility.

If JW serves a suspension this year at the JUCO level for playing games in Belgium, will he have to serve ANOTHER suspension when he gets to the DivI level?

Thankfully his NCAA issue has already been resolved. No matter what the NJCAA determines, Wilkins will still have to sit out 5 games at the NCAA level.

There may be an appeal process if the time is served at a lower collegiate level, but since they are separate organizations it's hard to say.

I wish it was, wizard, but I don't see how it could be. If he was cleared and eligible to play, he could probably sign a National letter of Intent next Wednesday with Bradley. That would be the best scenario. Now if he's not eligible, I don't see that he'd be able to sign a NLI, and that works against us.

"As far as I know, he'll sign his letter (next week with Bradley)."

No question," Carroll said when asked about other schools' interest in Wilkins. "We're recruited pretty heavily all the time and when schools stop by at practice and see him here, they'll say, 'Who's this guy?' But nobody has (targeted) him (as a potential recruit) that I'm aware of.

if he is on track to get his Associates Degree next spring, he can sign a LOI even if he's never played a single game at the juco level.

Geez. That's pretty ridiculous for him not to even be able to play at the junior college level.

Here's hoping he can sign the NLI next week with BU.

Can I say UNBELIEVABLE! The guy does pretty well in school in Europe, takes the ACT/SAT? and has NCAA ready scores and is still getting shafted around by the NJCAA. Why is this an issue is what I want to know? If he has to sit out there it would have been much better for him to sit out while at BU.

The question I have is he is not cleared by the NJCAA and does not suit up graduates this summer from there, does he have 4 years remaining of eligibility?

The NCAA has already cleared him to be able to play once he proves to them he is academically eligible. So, if he sits out this year from playing, besides getting rusty, I'd say people not seeing him play may play out for us! You just know though, that he wants to play!
