Indiana State's leading scorer- Harry Marshall- suspended indefinitely
Marshall was academically ineligible last season for the 1st semester...that was NOT an athletic department decision, that comes from higher up..no athlete can compete while ineligible academically.
Wonder if it's the same this year??

Maybe sometimes thats the case, but I swear I heard a report last year about another player not attending most of his classes last year...
I'm hearing there is a lot more to this issue with Harry Marshall than may ever be made public. It sounds like there are serious problems between Coach McKenna and Marshall, and also with a couple other players on the team. It sounds like Marshall will not be back, and there may be others that could go, too.
Wow. From a league strength perspective, this is not good. I think McKenna is a good coach, and Indiana St was showing some signs at the end of last season. Had Marico Stinson not had his drug problems, Indy St would have been a top 5 team IMO. If healthy this year, I saw them cracking the top half as well. With no Marshall and perhaps others, it could be another long year in Terre Haute.
If they are standing behind what a University should stand for instead of winning at any cost I stand behind them! Good for them for doing what is right first before winning. I believe in giving people a break but enough is enough sometimes.

To me, this smacks a bit of the same situation as we had with Danny Granger. Marshall and some of the others on the team were Royce Waltman recruits. McKenna needed them and they played a lot last year. Now in year 2, McKenna has brought in a number of his own recruits and transfers, and maybe the leftover juniors and seniors aren't getting the playing time or the starting slots they were expecting? These kids don't have the same close relationship with McKenna as the kids had with their former coach. That happens a lot in year 2 of a new coach.
I'll believe this when I see it. Like it or not, Mckenna needs to show progress with the program. Even Terre Haute has expectations for its athletic programs in the W column, and that's what will either put butts in the seats and revenue for the University, or continue to be the Mausoleum that is the Hulman Center. He'll put up with the malcontents in order to win....just watch.

I agree. If anything, perhaps a lesson from Steve Merfeld may be in order. He was unwavering in his discipline while at Evansville (and rightfully so); however it cost him several good players and probably some success there. Ultimately that lack of success cost him his job. If McKenna jettisons these guys, they could be in for another long season which will get the natives restless. Talking to a lot of Syc fans at Arch Madness last year, they have expectations this year...and this was before Jake Kelly came on board.
The latest on the Harry Marshall suspension is in this updated blog by Todd Golden, the Indiana State Sycamores beat writer for the Terre Haute Tribune Star. He says it is not related to academics this time. I suspect it's more of a personality/coaching difference.
I have to believe he'll be reinstated and will play for Indy State this year...his other options just aren't real attractive...unless he simply doesn't want to play college hoops anymore...

These days we have no idea who is whispering what into the kids ear. If he had any common sense we probably would not be writing about him.

Syc Fanatic...thanks...and that's just exactly what I had predicted...that Marshall would be back even if they had to beg him and hire his dad as assistant coach...
just for the record....on numerous occasions I have stated my opinion of Sycamore fans...
here are just a few of my comments...they are all 100% positive and I think Sycamore fans are great!
