Here is a link to the initial discussion of Johnson last month--

He is a 6'8", 215 pound forward from Cheyenne, Wyoming East high school. He was a virtual unknown a couple months ago. But he became a hot commodity and was recruited by a number of majors after he was named MVP of the senior All Star game at the Nike Camp in early July.

I figured this was going to happen. I would really like to get some committments for the fall. If we going into the spring with no signees, we're going to be in trouble.

In his local paper, Johnson says Bradley was still one of his final choices before he decided to go to Wake, along with Kansas, Tennessee, and Gonzaga.

Makes me feel fuzzy inside for about 2 seconds, until I realize another player passed on BU. We've got to get 2 solid '07 recruits in here, preferably in the 4/5 position.

Any news on who the 5 recruits visiting this month are?

I agree Lou. The mentions are nice, but add up to a whole lot of nothing until we land a few of these guys.

Besides James Johnson committing to Wake Forest, a couple other former Bradley recruits also just recently committed to top major programs in the last few days--

Point guard Jeff Teague from Indianapolis Pike high school just announced his committment to Wake Forest, too. Teague started out this summer as a midmajor prospect with offers from Bradley, SIU, and Xavier, but after leading his Spiece AAU team to several top finishes in summer tournaments, his stock skyrocketed. He chose Wake over Indiana and Boston College.

6'10" Center Gary McGhee from Anderson, Indiana was recruited by Bradley, but yesterday committed to Pittsburgh over Indiana and Wisconsin.

Josh Southern, a 6'9" power forward from Saginaw, Michigan, committed last week to Boston College.

I really don't care who we 'almost' got. Until we land a guy the caliber of the guys we're missing, this means a whole heck of a lot of nothing.

While I don't want to go around trumpeting who did not choose BU, I do think that BU is being considered by high-end recruits is an important lead indictor of the direction of the program. But, as you state, in the end it means nothing if you fail to convert at some point.

Another former Bradley recruit committed elsewhere today.
Jake Kelly, a 6'5" shooting guard from Carmel, Indiana, formerly from Marshall, Illinois, committed to the University of Iowa.

Here's one more small bit of recruiting news.
I report it only because it involves another Valley member, Illinois State.

HoosierHoopsReport.com reports that Adnan (Ado) Hodzic, a class of 2007 6'8" post player from North Central High School in Indianapolis has committed to the Lipscomb University Bisons. He had visited Lipscomb, Western Illinois, and Kent State, and had also been recruited by and had planned to visit Illinois State as well as Lehigh and Miami (OH).

North Central is the same high school that Illinois recruit Eric Gordon plays for. Hodzic is from Bosnia, and speaks 5 languages. He chose Lipscomb because they told him he was their top recruiting priority and because they have a good business school, and he plans to major in business.--

He is the #18 ranked player in Indiana for the class of 2007.--

Looks like you scooped even the Redbird board. No mention there of Hodzic or that ISU was recruiting him
With redbird fans....if they don't get the recruit they didn't want him that badly. I heard it when we got Tony B. and ISU didn't.

Here is the name of another kid that had been a recruiting target of Bradley. He is from the class of 2008.

Wes Eikmeier is a 6'3" point guard from Fremont (Nebraska) Archbishop Bergan High School. He just committed Sunday to Greg McDermott and Iowa State University. He also had a scholarship offer fron Northern Iowa and was receiving interest from other Valley schools including Creighton, and Wichita State. Bradley was in contact but had reportedly not yet offered a scholarship, though he was just starting his junior year.

This is interesting, Iowa State must have seen a huge upside.
The kid is Class of 2008, and the only schools that Iowa State seems to be competing against for this kid are the likes of Bradley, UNI, Denver, etc.
He is not listed at all in scout/insider's data base and is a Zero Star rating by Rivals.

He is a Ben Jacobson type of player, so he will definitely get interest, but for a BCS school to offer so early on a kid who would otherwise be a likely midmajor prospect puzzles me. None of the other schools listed appear to have offered yet.
