I agree with Coach Les and several of the coaches- it is an improvement over some of those ridiculous charging fouls called under the basket on the best players who beat their defenders and score, only to have some little guy who played no defense slide under the offensive player as he scores and draw the charge.
Does anyone else remember the only game Hersey Hawkins ever fouled out of? It was from 5 questionable charging calls all made by the same official (Ron Zetcher).
Yeah... I can't imagine who thought that was a good idea?? I suppose teams couldn't "opt" to paint the box anyway, since that'd probably be an out of spec floor...
Charging is still one of the hardest calls to make IMO...everyone is talking under the basket but most happen in the middle of lane.
Why they don't stripe it is beyond me? Maybe next year
I think the MVC blog mentioned that any NCAA mandated floor changes require a 4 year notification so all schools and facilities can have the time to properly implement it..

Is it really necessary to have 4 years to paint a stripe or semi-circle on the floor?
Say it for what it is, it'll take 4 years for the officials to all properly make calls

oh right I forgot....it has to go thru the House and Senate first
It will be just like the strike zone in baseball, some officials like umpires will call it the way the want to even if the rules have changed, without the semi-circle it will be impossible for the officials to get most of the calls correct.
Here is a blog entry from Kirk Wessler with more info about his and Dave's trip to the MVC Media day activities in St. Louis. He has a little insight into the absence of a Media Guide this year.-
