  • APs Debut with the Cavs

Unfortunately, I didn't get to watch the game tonight, but the Cavs opened the NBA season against the Celtics. Anthony Parker had 10 pts apparently.

Cavs still lost even with the addition of Shaq. We'll see how this experiment goes.

Box score for the Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA game from October 27, 2009 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

Looking at the rest of his stats, he had a pretty good all around game.

I watched much of the game and AP played very well. He played over 40 minutes, more than anyone except Lebron. He and Shaq were the only 2 Cavs that had a + score in net point rating, and he played very good defense. On offense, the Cavs' system has AP move from one corner to the other, and set screens as he cuts through the lane. He is the 4th or 5th option to take shots, so the only shots he gets are on breakaways, or opportunities when the patterned offense breaks down, so AP won't likely score much more than he did last night, but it's obvious the Cavs coach likes him on the floor a lot.
What the Cavs are lacking is another 3-point shooter, and some help off the bench. The only 3-point baskets they had last night were from AP and Lebron. Their lack of another outside shooter is going to hurt them. Boston's bench was 5-10 from three, the Cavs bench was 0-2. And the Celtic's bench outscored the Cav' bench 26-10.

pretty good assessment DC...I like the Cavs starting 5, but think they are going to struggle if they have to go deep into their bench.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

I'm not a huge Mo Williams fan and IMO the Cavs will have to have Mo act more like a PG and set up the rest of the team, or they will be counting on LJ again to win games for them every night. The good teams will be able to counter that consistently. There are not to many PGs in the NBA who can score at will and lead the team in assists. Gilbert Arenas is one and the other one is Rose. Mo is neither as talented.
