We might not know the outcome and the rules require the scrimmage to be closed and no reports or stats...
but most of you will remember this...
"Michael Beasley...had scored 42 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a closed scrimmage against Marquette"
so word does sometimes leak out...
Anyway....let's get the discussion going on DePaul..
they are pretty widely picked 16th in the Big East, and their projected starting five is a bit debatable because of their lack of experience......
there are two guys that'll be starting for sure.....
Will Walker - their only senior - will start for sure, he led them in scoring at 14.6 ppg
Mac Koshwal - leads in rebounding, 9.6 rpg, and had 12.2 ppg.
then the other starters will come from these guys...
Krys Faber - at center, if they want to go large, but he only played 8 min per game and averaged 1.8 ppg.
but the rest...
Jeremiah Kelly started 8 games, and is a good PG, but not a scorer, shooting 32% from the floor and 29% from 3-pt, averaging only 4.3 ppg.
Devin Hill, Mike Bizoukas, Mario Stula - all got chances to start and play last year but were very disappointing.
Hill hit on only 31% of shots - terrible for a guy who takes a lot of his shots close in, and he did try some 3-pointers and was 8-48, 16%
Bizoukas is the kid DePaul lured away from UNI, and I suspect the kid wishes now he'd have stayed with UNI! He played 15 mpg last year,
but only hit 30% overall and 17% from 3-pt, 2.0 ppg.
Stula was hailed as a great 3-pt shooter coming out of Decatur Christian HS but hasn't shown it in college. He only hits 25% from the floor and 27% from 3-pt, and his scoring and rebounding are almost non-existent.
Eric Wallace is a very athletic SF - transfer from Ohio State and will play some, but in his frosh season at OSU averaged 1.8 ppg.
Their best newcomer might be Mike Stovall juco transfer who averaged a whopping 8 ppg and 3 rpg at juco last year....hitting an astounding 16% from 3-pt range as a 6-4 shooting guard! Stovall started at Oregon State but did poorly there as a freshman, 0.9 ppg.
Tony Freeland is a freshman, SF, from California, he may be the most likely newcomer to get much playing time.
Their other newcomers (Jimmy Drew-transfer from SEMO, Nate Rogers-turned down a scholarship from Chicago State to walk on at DePaul, and a couple other walk ons) are not likely to play a lot.
so what does everyone think..
I think this will be a decent test...
and we need this kind of thing to prepare us...banging against a big body like Koshwal and playing on the road...
I would not be bothered if we lose but I think we'd have to play really bad to do so...but I know the coaches want to use this to develop and not necessarily just play the starters and eke out a win behind closed doors.
