  • BIG MEN

we are in desparetly need of a BIG MEN to fill at LEAST pne of our finaly 2 scholarship for next season. Considering SS is going to be out for most of the year and XC still isnt cleared to play we might as well use both of the scholarships for big men since we will be loaded with guards with SM, Fears, DW, and Ray Brown returning next year

who are BU's targetd and the chances we can land another POB??

Accordng to the Dave Reynolds article in Friday's PJ Star, Sam Singh's recovery is ahead of schedule--

I saw Sam at the Peoria Chief's game and he looked good. He did not have any limp and moved around a lot better than when we saw him at the awards banquet (prior to his second surgery). It's about the only good news we've heard concerning our big men.

As far as Big Men, this year's team features--

Zach Andrews, 6'8", 225- Zach is ready to take on the leader role among frontcourt players. We need him to play 30-35 minutes a game.

Saihou Jassey, 6'6", 200- I talked to Saihou last night and he is anxious to start playing. He will need to help out the thin frontcourt. As always, Saihou looks great. He is an amazing physical specimen.

Sam Singh, 6'9", 260- Sam is reportedly ahead of schedule, and is needed to provide muscle and some scoring.

Matt Salley, 6'7", 215- Matt is a big unknown. Will he be able to contribute the way Zach did last year in his first season of Division I?

Xavier Crawford, 6'11", 220- I didn't see XC at the Chief's game last night. We're still waiting for some news regarding whether he'll play this season.

It's also possible we could see a couple of our guards playing some time at small forward this year like Jeremy Crouch, Danny Adams, or even Andrew Warren. Not much experience there.

Lawrence Wright was also at the Chief's game. It was good to see Boogie. He was introduced as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters.

If XC is cleared, the frontcourt is inexperienced, but there are enough bodies. If he isn't cleared, we're in deep trouble up front.

I think BU is likely to play "small-ball" this year. Not enough size or experience in the frontcourt to play a style similar to last year's team.

Agree 100%. We will still need bodies though. XC is a big, athletic kid who could spell Andrews and Salley, and maybe suprise some people with his contributions. Losing his body down low really hurts.

I agree losing XC will hurt our inside depth, but my expectations are that BU will primarily play a rotation with 2 guards, 2 guard/forward type players, and a center. I may be wrong, but I think you have to play to the strength of the roster, which (for this year) is guards and wing players.

I agree. I have thought for a while that we'd be playing they style you described above.

Looks like Bradley lost out on another big man prospect.

Japeth Aguilar, a 6'9" forward who played the last 2 seasons for Ateneo De Manila University in the Philippines, just committed to Western Kentucky University. Note the mention of Bradley in this article--

With his transfer to WKU, he will have to sit out 1 year, then have 2 years of eligibility.
Nice to see Bradley's name appearing with a lot of prospects. Now we just need to see some commitments.

New Rivals article just this morning on Milwaukee's Montrel Clark, and it says this:

"I have not taken any visits just yet," said Clark. "Xavier, Iowa State, Bradley, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette have been by the gym to watch me practice. I am planning to officially visit Iowa State during the weekend of October 27. Bradley and Xavier are two other schools that I definitely plan to visit.
I know that Bradley and Xavier aren't very big schools, which is something I like because of the smaller classroom sizes. I like the idea of being in classes that aren't real large in numbers."

I like the idea of BU going after Clark. Sounds like he could use some weight and mentoring, but with 6'9 Egolf and 6'10 Thompson coming in, we have the luxury of redshirting a big man if needed.
