MM...NOT to speak for AZ buit I don't think he believes in the "true fans" notion. I believe he was using it sarcastically as, many times, guys with his views are labeled as NOT a "true fan."

    AZ...correct me if I'm wrong....

I do agree....and I think AZ will also.....its an old and tired argument.

It seems like both these guys had a ton of hype early in the process and both didn't have much hype at the end of the process. I think with DSE his injury really hurt his recruitment duing his Final Year on the AAU Circuit.

With Prosser I think he was big and had a lot of potential early in the recruiting process.. However never really got any taller and the big schools lost interest late. He definitely benefited from playing on just an absolutely loaded AAU Team.

I also feel that Bradley needs to make there recruitment more public. Not for the sake of us fans, but for the sake that it shows love to the recruits they are going after. Hey why does BU not have a Rivals or Scout site. Do interviews, articles, write ups ... on the current team, current players, and recruits we are going after. I think if we arent mentioned by recruits in articles and interviews ... I feel thats a problem. "OUT OF SITE, OUT OF MIND". type of thing. The more we can show about our program and players we are interested in ... the better chances we have on gettting and keeping players interested.

There may be some truth in Prosser and DSE....when Prosser didn't verbal earlier to some of the bigger boys they may have filled the spot or withdrew some interest. It really doesn't make any difference. To JL's credit he stayed with JP the whole time and that's all that really matters.

I agree with others....it doesn't make any difference where they come from....just get the wins

[quote=Da Coach;141843]First, Mullins was a good player for SIU's system. I do not think he would have been a very effective point guard in Jim Les' system.
Dilard may have an impact eventually, but SIU won a total of 13 games last year- if I tried to make a claim that a BU player had an impact on a season where we only won 13 games, I'd be laughed at!

I agree with you on Dillard DC....but Mullins could have been effective for any coach in the Valley in my opinion.

I do not mind those negative "Nellies", what I do mind are those that cut into the University in a very inflammatory manner and offer nothing but innuendos to back themselves up! I admit that I look at BU basketball in rose color glasses and guzzle the BU Kool-aid by the gallon!

we can use lots more of same...

funny, if you love BU then you would LOVE to see BU get MORE dedicated and faithful fans.....so why do some so-called "BU fans" want the "koolaid fans" to take a hike?? I sure don't.

I don't think anybody wants anyone to take a hike....I think people just want their opinions respected without having their "fandom" questioned.

A person can LOVE BU and want more then 4th, 5th and 6th place finishes in the Valley and more then NO/Zero MVC tourney titles since JL took over.

in fact, a more accurate statement would be that Bradley had NOT been mentioned in regards to Prosser in more than a year..
BU offered early, then nobody mentioned Bradley from late 2007 onward except for a few stories that reflected back to mention the prior offer....

Here are dozens of articles on Prosser...and this is just a sampling...
but find me one between 2007 and 2009 that says BU is one of his CURRENT considerations (at the time of the article)....
The only ones that even mention the name Bradley say this... "hearing from...Bradley".
                http://search.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=4...22&sssiteid=-1

Here's a story from April 2008 and it lists FIVE different programs he's considering and planning visits to (IU, ND, Wisc., Xavier, Baylor)...but the word "Bradley" isn't in the article at all.

Other articles also add Illinois, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Iowa, SIU, Illinois State, Missouri, Oregon State, and Purdue...
those articles go on and on about his interest in all those bigger schools, but never is Bradley mentioned as more than just tagged onto the end of his list of schools he's heard from or got an offer from.

The kid was AT more than a dozen Bradley games...yet not one of the recruiting sites seems to have known this...nor do they mention it...
but when he was AT an Indiana game, there were 25 stories about it!!

Just a few weeks before Prosser chose BRADLEY, this Rivals story said...
                "Prosser has top six...
My top six right now are Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Texas A&M."
BRADLEY IS NOT EVEN MENTIONED ANYWHERE IN THE ARTICLE!!

Finally, in early August of 2008, when JP verballed to BU, the story just days earlier on the Iowa site suggested he was favoring Iowa..
                it said this...
"Is Prosser Close to a Decision"
"I talked to Missouri and Oregon State today. I really don't think I am interested in Oregon State, but Missouri said they would be evaluating me in July."
" the 6-foot-7 forward from Eureka High School in Illinois who is ranked by Rivals.com as a three star prospect hasn't completely narrowed down the field quite yet.
"I am still waiting to hear from a some schools."

Oh, and on Dyricus....here's a major Rivals article on Dyricus from last season.....

It says he's considering Iowa, Illinois State, Wichita State, Kent State, as well as Missouri State, Kansas State and even Indiana...
but not even a hint that the kid has ever heard of Bradley!
Nope, I stand by my statement, that the educated folks on BradleyFans were among the VERY few who gave BU serious consideration with either DSE or JP....and someone on this board actually predicted BOTH of their committments several monoths before they happened...at the very time everyone else was saying JP to Iowa and DSE to ISU or K-State.

                Tornado.. what's up with you?
Am I really "WAY INCORRECT"? Or are you once again just reading what you want? Did Bradley not offer Prosser when he was a freshman? Was that not reported anywhere? Was BU never mentioned in the recruitment of DSE until he announced he was coming to Bradley? Pulling several articles from various times during their recruitment that do not mention BU does not prove anything. It does not mean Bradley was not mentioned earlier.

My point was and still is, it is a concern to me that Bradley has not been mentioned at all with any but one or two of the recuits from the upcoming classes. I am by no means an expert, but if the classes are anywhere near as good as everyone thinks, then I would assume we would want to be in on these kids too. I don't have a problem recruiting out of state.. but the only names we seemed linked with right now are in OH, IN, KY, TX etc.

I also understand we don't always see the names or know what the staff is up to until the end. But I do find it disconcerting that ISU, SIU, SLU, Depaul etc are hot after a lot of instate players it appears we have no interest in.

The good Illinois players are already taken for the most part so why not look elsewhere? I'm not into recruiting a local just because and thank our lucky stars neither is JL and his staff. My fixation is on getting the best recruits we can regardless. What I see is that JL targets the top Illinois talent and when they express that we are not in the running he cuts bait and moves his resources elsewhere. We do not have unlimited resources to have the luxury of throwing our time at just any player out there.

When the program has a high level of success, no one cares where the recruits/players are from

Its hard to imagine BU staff having a bias for/against recruiting locally/in state. I've got to believe when they think they have a shot at someone who fits their needs, can improve the program, and who is interested in playing for BU or in the MVC, they try.

Potential recruits have to want to play at BU. When the program has continued high levels of sucess it should make it easier to find local/in state kids who want to play for BU.

The pieces seem to be in place - fan base, arena, new practice facilities, history, improving conference...

If BU can put together a run of high finishes in the MVC/MVC Tourney, a run of NCAA/NIT appearances over the next 3-4 years, I think we would find more local/instate kids interested in playing for BU..

What do people feel about recruiting more foreign players, leverage our alumni playing in Europe? Didn't Gonzaga do this as they were ramping up their program?
