Iman Shumpert might fall into this category. BU was close to getting him...but could we have reasonably expected BU to land him? Not sure on that point.

O&B, every program misses on lots of kids they'd love to have....
so sure BU missed on Shumpert, Roth, Shaun Livingston, Lewis Jackson, Rcardo Johnson, etc..

but for the sake of argument...I will state it again....

it is next to impossible to get a kid from outside the area to have any interest in coming to Peoria, IL.
Bradley is and always will be quite a tough area to recruit to....
Schools like Creighton, Wichita, even Drake have far larger metropolitan areas..
Other schools, state schools, bigger schools, schools in cities with slightly better images, and histories all have advantages...

it's hard to recruit here but we ARE getting it done!!

Midstate - you yourself said that Illinois is one of the best, if not the best, basketball states in the country.

        I agree.

Isn't it safe to assume that college coaches from all over the country agree as well?

So, if Illinois is the hotbed that it is...and everyone is recruiting it...I think its pretty great that we've come away with the quality players that we have - same for the other non-BCS schools in-state.

Everybody is after a peice of the Illinois Basketball talent pie...not just the in-state schools.

        Congrats Coach Les.

Valid Point from Tornado on his last comment...

However, are we getting it done??

Success is measured by Wins and Post Season Play.

          2005-06 22-11 .667 11- 7 .611 NCAA Tournament (2-1)

          2006-07 22-13 .629 10- 8 .556 NIT (1-1)

          2007-08 21-17 .553 9- 9 .500 CBI (4-2) Runner-Up
          (Record without CBI ... 17-15)

          2008-09 21-15 .583 10-8 .556 Collegeinsider.com(3-1) Runner-Up
          (Record without Collegeinsider.com ... 18-14)

CBI and Collegeinsider.com Tounaments are an absolute JOKE of a tournament. Cool in the sense that at least its some type of post season play and we get to go to more home games. But what does it prove if you win it that you should of been the last team selected to the NIT???

          LG281...

I agree that alot of schools across the country come in and take kids out of the state. I just have the feeling that we should and could do alot better. Just my opinoin

I'll agree that the last 2 seasons were disapointing.
I also believe that a reasonable fan should accept last year as a rebuilding year. (Even Wesler of the pjs did)

The most fustrating thing about the last 2 years has been overall lack of production from a highly rated recruiting class (nationally top 25 by some). We have received nice producion from Sam M and Theron, but nothing statistically from our more highly rated bigs, AT and WE, marginal production from DC and TCS and RA disappeared..

I have every reason to believe this year's team will be significantly better than the past 2 and this current "hand wringing" will seem silly.

I also think that once the new facilities are available, a few more recruits will choose Bradley. I think it took a special type of gym-rat/history major to play at BU. One willing to play the summer in a non-air conditioned Field House because they still understood how cool it's history was.

Kevin Dillard was a more highly rated recruit and is a more talented basketball player than any of the guards we have brought in over the last couple of years.

I give up.. it went from we don't recruit enough good Illinois kids to records and crap post season tourneys...

                  Laughable...

Dillard can be a game changer- can't say he has so far really- Osiris is only "game changer" I see that we missed on and we were in on him until late...

                  Some people are never happy...

How many kids from California skip USC or UCLA?
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

Here's my concern. The next 2010 & 11 are supposed to be the best IL recruiting classes in decades.. and except for Threloff.. the Braves are getting little to no mention with any of the big names in the state.

Maybe we are recruiting some of these kids on the down low.. but we usually hear something and right now there is not even a hint. ISU, SIU, SLU, DePaul all are being mentioned as recruiting some of these kids.

Like I said, I have little to no inside info on the efforts of Les & his staff. It just seems odd that we are not getting mentioned.

By the way, for whoever wrote it's tough to convince kids to come to Peoria.. you think it's tougher than convincing them to go to Normal or Carbondale? Get real.

I might be greedy: I just expect more ...
First, Mullins was a good player for SIU's system. I do not think he would have been a very effective point guard in Jim Les' system.
Dilard may have an impact eventually, but SIU won a total of 13 games last year- if I tried to make a claim that a BU player had an impact on a season where we only won 13 games, I'd be laughed at!
So again, the only example comes down to Osiris Eldridge, and Bradley recruited him hard. He just chose to go to ISU for reasons I will not go into.

Is this what you really meant to say? Because I can name a few-
                          Marcellus Sommerville
                          Daniel Ruffin
                          Jeremy Crouch
                          Tony Bennett
                          Sam Maniscalco
                          Dodie Dunson
                          and soon-
                          Jordan Prosser
                          Dyricus Simms-Edwards

As far as cities...I agree Normal and Carbondale have NOTHING on Peoria.

One things I always wondered though about recruiting is I think its a little bit easier for Isu and sIu to recruit then BU simply becuase of name recognition. I would think having the name Illinois in there at least gives them a mkt edge with some name recognition.

I could be wrong and maybe if there even IS any advantage its probably small.....

It's possible that a state school and a former top party school are more desireable to some..

Peoria does not have the best (vibrant, diverse, hip..) reputation among the younger set. Employers (well, when they were hiring) found it difficult to recruit young employees into Peoria. There are community groups and initiatives trying to improve the perception of Peoria, and to change policies in Peoria that hinder those efforts. There was a letter to the editor this year that summed it up well: A wife of some VP was asked by a (non-local) friend, why would I want to move to Peoria, "There's no reason why you would want to move to Peoria, but when you consider the commuting times, (semi)pro sports, theater.., There's also no reason to leave Peoria"

but haven't we learned anything from the facts of history...
BU likes to keep their name off the front pages...

ONLY the people on BradleyFans last year knew BU was still in the lead for Prosser & DSE...yet all the other sites said he wasn't considering BU at all...

so just because "the Braves are getting little to no mention"...doesn't mean the Braves aren't going to get anyone...
time will tell....wait and see...the sky is not falling yet...
four 20+ win seasons in a row, four consecutive post-season tourneys, record breaking attendance and funds, new campus facilities...
can't anyone find some good somewhere......should we start a separate "negative nellie" forum??
