Copenhagen is a great city! B4L would go crazy with all the site seeing. I was with a good friend and I swear we had to just stop saying,"Did you see that." because we were saying it every other minute!
Oh heck yes SFP. I have been to Copenhagen and took the boat to Malmo, Sweden for a day trip. Absolutely incredible site seeing!

Same here. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a conservative Republican as well. Well, maybe more conservative than Republican since it's hard to tell if most Republican representatives are conservative or liberal these days!
IMO it's sad to say, but there are very few moderate or liberal Republicans these days. I took the stance that if a city in the US is in the running for the Olympics, then I want to win the contest. Since we did not win the competition, than I know a couple of issues where we can allocate the money that would have gone to building the infrastructure for the games.

Ha Murph, whats not patriotic with not wanting more debt for a state that is already running in the red and feeding more crooks like the corrupt political machine in Chicago It sounds like sound judgment to me and not the likes of being non-patriotic people Having the Olympics in the U.S. in Ill. and in Chicago or for that matter P Town would be a great thing, if times were good. But they are not Thats just why the "some people" hoped it would not happen! There will be better times and there will then be a better time for the Olympics in the U.S. and Chicago
Funny you should bring up the US bashing SFP. I thought all of the US bashing going on in the world was all due to George W. Bush. But apparently the world hates Obama as well (even if they say the opposite). I guess the world hates us no matter who the president is!
I understand that the corrupt political machine in Chicago had a lot to due with the results too, but the anti US senitment that exists throughout the rest of the world I'm sure played into this as well.
I've done my share of traveling and can say being a US citizen and traveling around you find out that people just have a great misunderstanding of us. I'm lucky to be able to blend into a lot of different cultures but I do have some stories, some funny, about anti-American sentiments while over seas. One story I'd love to share with the guys over a beer. This was during the start of the Iraq war while I was in London. In short, I made her pay dearly for her remarks. I also feel that the world always likes to take a swipe at us but come crying to us when they can't handle things in their own back yard (i.e. the Euros in Yugoslavia)

SFP, I have done my share of traveling as well, but I have a different perspective as for some reason, European people do not think that I am an American until I talk to them. For the most part I am mistaken for German, Dutch or as an Englishman. It's fun as I have Europeans approach me to ask for directions. The main comment that I ran into recently is that people say that they love Americans but did not like our previous President. When they discovered that we had a common belief (not in favor of W) then they really opened up to me. I have also witnessed that Europeans do not like the outwardly brash American traveler! (ugly American if you may) I have a classic story of how I got a window seat at the Jules Verne Restaurant in the Eiffel tower without a reservation as a result of an innocent comment that I made about some very brash tourists who didn't realize the impression that they were making.

I do not like those brash, loud, obnoxious American travelers either. I try to avoid them at all costs even here in the US, but there are plenty of tourists from other countries that act the same when they are here but I'd never categorize them all the same. It has been rare that I personally have been treated rudely due to my nationality but I have seen innocent Americans treated very poorly just because.
BTW...Texans seem to be the loudest most obnoxious travelers from my experience out there. When an American is asked where are they from, they usually say USA and if you ask a Texan they yell out TEXAS! Just an observation made more then a hand full of times.

very true SFP on all accounts. Don't foget New York!! The people in my example were from New York. They were making jokes about French cuisine at the restaurant while we were in line to be seated. You could see that the maitre d was upset so I told him that not all Americans are that way. The next thing I know, I had a window seat without a reservation!!!

Here is something funny that came out of the efforts to land the 2016 Olympics in Chicago. In First Lady Michelle Obama's speech to the International Olympic Committee, she teared up and evoked memories of watching former stars win gold medals at previous Olympics- ???Some of my best memories are sitting on my dad??™s lap, cheering on Olga and Nadia, Carl Lewis, and others for their brilliance and perfection.???
Well, though the entire mainstream media ignored it, but Michelle Obama was 20 years old when Carl Lewis made his first appearance in the 1984 Olympics, and Lewis did not win a gold medal until the 1988 Olympics when Michelle Obama was 24 years old.

I really dont even know where to begin with the above statement. I have traveled all over both the US, Canada and Europe. I also have worked within the travel industry now for over 8 years. And I deal with people from all over the USA and beyond on a daily basis. Obnoxious is NOT limited to Texans, or east coasters, its equal opportunity for all over this country and beyond, that includes Californians, who often have a huge chip of entitlement on their shoulders.
I am not an orginal Texan and still tell people who ask that I am from Illinois but a Texan tells you he is from Texas because there is more pride in who they are then any other state in the Union. They might say it louder then a Californian or someone from Illinois, but I think you are confusing pride with obnoxious. But there is plenty of obnoxiousness USA wide, so it is very difficult to call out a Texan, but that is just my observation from having to deal with all kinds of people from all over the USA daily.

I caught that one when she said that DC. What I was alluding to in some of my posts is that I thought that Mayor Daley sounded very brash during his speech to the IOC. What he gets by with in Chicago with a speech is much different than speaking to some well connected Europeans. imo

Houston somehow I thought you would chime in. I never say California I always say San Francisco! That is one place that always gets a positive response over seas. LOL
