big spenders in the fan base are more football oriented than basketball oriented, and Cyclone football has not been as dominant as it once was.
For comparison sake, the Carver-Hawkeye Arena (that Stave Alford's Hawkeyes play in) cost over $18 million to build in 1983, and that is not including land costs as the university already owned the land.
The costs for a similar arena today are being projected well above $100 million.
