Many Junior College transfers have had success in the MVC, and every year some of the top players in the Valley are juco transfers, including previous Player of the Year (Booker Woodfox), and many All-MVC players (incl. Theron Wilson).
Joe Book just listed his projected top 15 seniors in the MVC, and 8 of them are juco transfers.
15-8-
7-1-
But the usual trend is that junior college players don't stand out their first seasons in the MVC, but then can excel their senior seasons. Very few MVC jucos in past seasons average double figures their junior years.
Last year was a good year for jucos, yet only 4 first-year jucos (all guards) were above 10 ppg-
Clevin Hannah (WSU)- 11.2 ppg
Rashad Reed (InSU)- 11.0 ppg
Lloyd Phillips (ISU)- 10.6 ppg
Dodie Dunson (BU)- 10.1 ppg
Also, Theron Wilson did it for BU in 2007-08 with 11.7 ppg. And in 2004-2005 both Tony Bennett (11.8 ) and Lawrence Wright (10.1) did it.
Marcellus Sommerville averaged 15.6 ppg his first season after transferring from a juco as a sophomore in 2003-04, but he was not a typical juco recruit. Those are the only juco recruits in recent BU history to average over 10 ppg their first seasons. So Dodie Dunson is in select company.
Who will be the top incoming juco players this year?
